What are your favourite horror movies? What do you look for in horror movies?

I tend not to like horror movies, but I've seen a couple that I liked. Specifically:

1408
Devil

Although not really horror, El laberinto del fauno was a good dark movie.
The Birds
Cloverfield

I tell thee, 'tis not half so fair as thou
Or any man that breathes on earth.

Epsilon: There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero... never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith.

Jaws.

It's probably not considered a true "horror" movie, but it's still one of the scariest. Shark eyes are creepy, and then there's the whole bite aspect.

The original Paranormal Activity really got me.

I like immersion, belivability and creepiness more than outright jump out of your seat fright.

This. I'd never been scared during a movie until PA, which was horrifying. Oh my god. I had to pause it after about 30 minutes and think about whether I should keep going lol.

What was the situation you watched it in? Because part of it for me might have been that i was watching it alone at 12:00 nighttime...

Cloverfield isn't that scary, but its intense and well-executed.

Seriously? Paranormal Activity? What did you find scary about it? I think that it was almost as overhyped as Cabin in the Woods.
