Have you ever noticed how shallow they tend to be lately?

Like, you know how they show a bunch of people being happy? Then they just make a shallow reference about how happier the GEICO commercials are..

It somewhat goes like this:

*Dracula questions blood donor about his blood type* One guy asks, "How happy are our customers?" The other guy replies, "They are are happier than Dracula volunteering at a blood donation center."

To me, this looks like a weak attempt to connect things together to make them relevant.

Thoughts?

Were they ever not?

Well, they used to be not shallow a few years ago.

I mean, things were not irrelevant back when they showed the caveman and the gecko.

Indeed.

And is this really a problem?...

This commercial is really stupid... But on the plus side, I did just save 15% on my car insurance by switching to Geico.

Hell yeah. Going through caveman and smarmy British gecko withdrawal is not fun (I can do better when I'm more awake).

I think there is a consensus forming that this is what makes it funny.

Geico ------------> Gecko

it's what they do.

There is a thread about Geico commercials and not about anybody else's commercials, so that must mean some success. The idea is to be memorable rather than deep.

Geico seems to be concurrently running three themes in commercials (1) the "as happy as" series, (2) the Maxwell the talking pig series, and (3) the gecko series.

In the pig video, the top of the steering wheel seems to be even with the pig's nose, but later when viewed from the front the steering wheel is not there. I'm beginning to suspect some trickery with that pig.
