I took a screenshot from Tomb Raider II (1997) and pasted it into Paint, and the colors were screwed up. Any idea what happened?

It's just a screenshot pasted into Paint. Would I get a different result if I pasted it into a different program?

What format is it? If it isn't jpg\jpeg convert it.

I don't know what format Print Screen takes in.

Is it bad quality as soon as you paste it in or only after you save it? If its the latter then saving it as a different file type (like jpeg or gif) could help.

Otherwise, if the quality is poor to begin with then converting the file won't do much of anything. I don't know if you have any other image editing programs, but if you're looking for quality I'd stay away from Paint like its the plague.

It's not a file type problem. It's a problem with the way the game renders itself, your video card, or some other technical problem you have no real way of fixing. Print-screen is pixel-accurate - there is no loss in quality when using print-screen.

That said, you could try some other method of taking screenshots. Many games have an in-game control for taking a screenshot. If there is a screenshot control listed in the controls menu, use that.

You could also try changing your graphics settings in the game. If it has a windowed mode, that would almost certainly not have this problem.

Other screen-capture programs like FRAPS might work if all else fails.
