Remember how M Night Shyamalan used the color red in the movie "The Sixth Sense" to key viewers in on the fact that the story was about to take a turn? Well - the producers of "Breaking Bad" are upping the ante big time! There are tons of secret codes that in the series that are all color coordinated.

Mostly, look for the colors to be worn as a characters' costume... so a red shirt means more than a floor that is painted red, or a red car. But anytime these colors are prominently displayed, there is probably going to be an inside reference going on:

GREEN
Greed/Envy/Money

BLUE
Loyalty/Challenge/METH - something is about to happen with Meth

YELLOW
Caution/Cowardice/METH - something is about to happen with Meth

BROWN
Humility/Strength/Security

PURPLE
Royalty/Luxury/Gluttony

ORANGE
Danger/Buffoonery

PINK
Innocence/Naivete/Tragedy

RED
Violence/Danger/Aggression

BLACK
Death/Deception/Evil

GREY
Depression/Guilt/Regret

That's not exactly limited to Breaking Bad. Those colors pretty much universally mean those things when it comes to cinematography.

With this series, these colors are more than tropes, they have crossed all the way into the realm of "inside" references. For example, Skyler wears blue when she goes to chemotherapy sessions (loyalty), and green when she starts handling his meth money. The only time Walter Jr wears green is when he sets up a website asking for money. Walter wears the same color pink (innocence) as the pink teddy bear from the plane crash - and this is the same shade as that worn by his new baby.

Speaking of that teddy bear, it keeps showing up, too. Remember that girlfriend of Pinkman's that asphyxiated on her vomit? She drew that teddy bear on a mural in her room. It was also for sale in the store that Walt showed up naked in after he "vanished."

Spotting things like this is fun!
