I'm watching The Cell as I type this, which probably doesn't rank anywhere near the top of the scary movie list, and I'm freaking out. I thought I'd give it a shot since I've heard good things but I'm clearly not cut out for this stuff. Are there any other movie wimps out there who just can't stomach horrors or thrillers? For the fans of these genres, what exactly is the appeal?

I'm the biggest movie wimp I've ever met. (Yes, I've met myself.) I curl up in a ball, put pillows over my face, hide under blankets, and do other ridiculous stuff during scary movies. I don't watch them unless I am forced to.

You people are wimps. :P

I'll watch almost anything as far as movies goes(except for anything overly pornographic). Having friends who are huge horror fans, I have had to watch plenty of "horror" films which aren't at all scary. They just get cheesy and cliche after awhile. Only ones that manage to make me cringe a bit are the Saw films due to the excess of gore.

Hi, my names Pan, and I'm a scary movie wimp. it all started when I was 4, when I forced my mother to fast forward the start of the cartoon Beauty and the Beast.

For some reason, i can see the western horror movies like The Cell and Texas chainsaw massacre, and sleep like a baby. Yet, when i first saw Ju-on, which is the japanese version of the Grudge, i couldnt sleep for a week. And then i saw Ju-on 2. And then Chakushin-ari and Kairo and all the other J-horror stuff. And i kept failing to sleep over and over and over again. Yet i keep watching them cause i love them. Fear is the best emotion, ever.

Anyone see a japanese original horror movie, and thought it was much, much better than any western horror movie?

The ESRB needs to back off. Seriously, it doesn't take much for a movie to be rated PG 13 anymore.

I agree that modern horror movies are too predictable to be scary. The other crucial problem is that movies that are "too scary" get some incredibly awful rating and are kept out of movie theatres and media centres.

True horror movies these days have been replaced by Gore and "Thriller" type horror genres. The stories are interesting, but the movie itself is boring as hell. There is nothing fun and enjoyable or scary about someones head being cut off.

I personally love suspenseful thrillers... I just don't have the stomach for watching gore-y stuff or watching people get tortured (ahem, Saw). When it comes to "Scary" movies, I just laugh mostly, because of how dumb or inplausible they are. It's just a lot of the camera swirling around and loud noises.

If they made a Silent Hill movie that actually resembled the game and had little human contact and a comprehensible storyline, like SH2, that would be p. cool. Yeah. An SH2 horror adaption. Actually, now that I think of it, I'd rather just play the game.

Movies based on games usually suck imo.

SH2 as a movie adaption would fail just horribly. SH2 is too good for the movie screen. This is blasphemy.

However, I liked the actual SH movie, and I liked it even more when they started tying in elements into SH5. I could see a movie based off SH5.

Yeah. I figured that already.
But you've got a point there. SH5 was bad enough to look good on the big screen. Hell, it may even look better. Who knows, eh?

This game talk makes me realize that I show no such wimpiness when it comes to games. I've always been a big RE fan and actually enjoy getting a little spooked as long as I know I'm holding a shotgun. I guess it's a control thing.

RE was horrible. I dunno how anyone couldve watched that movie without gouging their eyes out with hot needles. Infact, i couldve made a fortune selling the needles outside the movie theatre when RE was being played.

sounds like my girlfriend. I made her watch blue velvet and she locked every door in the apartment, and insisted I pull the blinds the whole way down. She was seriously freaked out.

I don't get "scared" in movies -- I get grossed out. I don't particularly like seeing blood, guts and gore. I used to mess around with these 2 girls who were obsessed with horror movies, so when I was around them I'd watch and pretend to be interested. That desensitized me for a little while because the stuff that they were into was obviously fake (and retarded). But when watching a movie, I become a huge sissy and hide my eyes most of the time just because I know what's coming - I know to expect the random BAM! factor where some crazy dude pops up or whatever and goes on some crazy rampage etc etc etc. That stuff is gross and I don't find it entertaining. I avoid "scary" movies whenever possible because I don't like the blatant and cliche violence, and the plot is usually boring. All in all, I'd definitely consider myself a movie wimp... it does depend on the movie and my mood though :p

This is because youve only watched the blood/gore type horror movies. If you go watch the more psychological horror movies, they are much more entertaining. I suggest you go watch the japanese version of the Grudge, scared the hell out of me.
