Is there any good mainstream anime that is currently out?

Something that has a well paced amount of action as well as philosophical/intellectual idea being portrayed by the plot?

Louise is more attractive that Siesta, there I said it.

Are these some love interests of yours? Would you like some tips on how to talk to them?

No, they're characters in the anime Zero no Tsukaima.

Just watched Ep 12 of season 3 of ZnT.

Definitely going to be a season 4. Gah, it's such a c*ck tease, all Saito and Louise do is kiss. You know she wants him inside her.

Zero No Tsukaima is truly one of the hotter anime out there at this point with it's continuing plotline!

But talk is going on about the latest 3d Resident Evil: Degeneration (which is technically anime)

and even some of the up-coming shows such as Raoh Gaiden of Hokuto No Ken fame.

Also, the word on the street is FullMetal Alchemist 2 is coming soon, which is causing quite a stir :3

Death Note and Naruto... Good? The Death Note manga was good, but the anime was metal loaded hot-topic-catering crap. Death Note is way to intelectually based to make a decent anime the simple-minded 'zOMG YAOII' fangirls could understand.

I second Darker than Black. It's a good anime that, while not as mainstream as the previously mentioned shows, is gaining popularity.

It is easy enough to find 'good' animes, but your requirement for 'mainstream' makes it a lot harder. The big problem with mainstream anime isn't necessarily that it isn't well done or has a bad story line, I think that very few people would say that the beginnings of Naruto were terrible (ignoring the first 6 or so episodes), but its all so slowly paced. Naruto 2nd season was okay because it was paced like the manga, but then they had to stretch it out to keep distance between the manga and the anime and to make more money. I don't think I've watched it in a year. Freakin fillers... (Wow, longest forum post EVER!)

Just throwing out Toradora again. The last episode came out today. I'm on 21/25 and it's been great. (If you like high school romance dramas.) And it will make you shed manly tears.

Death Note is simply the the best manga that I have ever read. I'm not sure, but if manga is the book version and anime is the animated version, they both seemed the same to me..........

If you haven't seen "The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye" I'd highly recommend it. I think the dubbed version was completed about a year ago, but I haven't seen much press on it. It's a good mix of serious plot and action. There are some episodes that seem like pointless fillers that are later revealed to have been closely tied to the plot -- clever.

The movie Vixelle has better animation than Appleseed, and excellent plot ideas, but the furious action doesn't allow for enough character development to really drive the story. Still well worth seeing.

I can't stand Naruto, no plot coupled with annoying characters.

Some of us want our anime nao, want at least some semblance of respect for IP (by getting it from sites that remove it if the copyright holder so requests), and don't give a good god d*** about having it in Ultra-Def.

My problem with POT is that it gets a bit repetitive, Ryoma almost always win and it got to be a bit much like Dragon Ball Z around the end (and I'm not talking about the anime and its fillers, but rather the manga and the OVAs). Before, it was somewhat realistic in terms of actual tennis (and I highly stress the word somewhat) and games were actually won based on realistic skill. However, we then have characters doing power ups during the match in attempt to get an advantage, techniques which can make the opposing player lose all of his senses, characters teleporting on the court in a pure display of speed Ryoma going super saiyan at the end and so many other things which just took away the actual tennis charm.

The vid on the right is a taste of how bad things are in the series (make sure to pay special attention to the parts where they are playing tennis underwater):

That said, the series does have one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard for a series (the only one which I've actually purchased)

Being an avid reader of Naruto (as in I read the manga, not watch the anime), I'd like to know how you've gathered that it has no plot and which characters you believe are annoying. Just out of curiosity anyway.

The manga is actually pretty good, although I REALLY REALLY want Sasuke to get killed off. He wasnt even supposed to be in Naruto in the first place, and now he refuses to die. The anime is full of filler though, and thats why they said its annoying and without a plot.
Back to the original question though, I would recommend Full Metal Alchemist, Death note, D gray man, and Angel Sanctuary.

Sounds interesting. I'll have to check this out. Are the eps on Youtube or Veoh or what?

Try, Darker than Black.

I agree. Darker than Black was so cool in many ways. Cool like Death Note was. And although it is a completed series by now, I heard from my sister that they're now making a second Darker than Black series. So, I'll have to look into that soon.
