I realize music is a subjective thing. But 1991 was the pinnacle and fall of "Arena Metal" with GnR and Metallica, the reinvention of U2, rise of Grunge and Alternative rock, the resurgence of punk, the "country superstar", and the debut of many bands that dominate the music landscape and history to this day. What are your thoughts??

Wikipedia has it for basically every year I've tried (20th century). just search "[year] in music".

There was certainly great music in that year. It was a type of golden era, but MC Hammer? and Live? Just a few I took exception too.

Then again its perception.

Before someone *jumps in with: "there's more music now.."

Let me quote myself: Music is growing but mostly the good music that we hear came to our ear not via MTV or crap-media but new-age media like Napster, or music that we borderline-legal like listening to <playlists> on YOUTUBE. YES, there is more music now, but its becuase we are not dependent on crap television and crap commercial telling us what to listen to. eg: listenig to free music on Youtube expanded my horizons.
