I am very interested in real-time war strategy games [realistic ones, not with future weapons]. I have played the EndWar demo (only a tiny bit futuristic) many times on PS3, and World in Conflict on PC. I've also tried Company of Heroes, among some others. I think it's very interesting to be in control of an army and defend, mostly when you're about to get defeated and find a way to push the enemy back.

Does any of you play such games?

I do, though I suppose I play more "futuristic" ones, or maybe more fantasy oriented.

I used to play Starcraft heavily, offline and online, and I was pretty good. I had one of the best records among my little group, until I was banned for being a bit of a prick. Similarly, I played Warcraft when it is was still good, meaning 1-3.

I still do play a somewhat war-strategy game, though it has politics and governance mixed in as well.

I played WarCraft 3 too. Never played StarCraft though. Have you tried any of those I mentioned?

StarCraft is definitely fun to play. I'd recommend it, especially considering the sequel will be coming out soon.

I've played World in Conflict, though I remember not being hilariously impressed. I've always thought of playing EndWar, but that requires a headset and I'm lazy. :D But I've seen it played, and its really good.

It may be fun, but I'm more for current weapon technology systems.

I used to watch videos about WiC, and when I played it myself, I was not as much impressed either. You don't get to control many units somehow. Maybe it's because the video settings were at lowest - takes away the fun sometimes. But EndWar seems pretty nice, although the unit control is not so good. There is this voice command system, which I used for the first time two days ago when I bought a bluetooth headset. It's good, but there are certain words the game system cannot really understand. I have to say "seven" many times because it thinks I say "eleven", and "deploy" or "tanks" is also hard for it to understand. Otherwise you can play without voice. I did for a long time.

@Mirza

I rented EndWar once and I wanted to play but I couldn't without the headset, which of course I was never told you needed to have. Kinda turned me off it. xD

I don't think you need the headset. But it probably makes the game a lot more fluid. You can select things on the little popup window with your buttons.

Age of Empires 3! I suck at it, but it's still fun
I've played AoE too, mostly AoE2, but I'm not much interested in older military systems anymore. The modern one is one you have to use a variety of defensive and offensive methods with. Like tanks>transports>helicopters>tanks. Not much variety like that in older systems.

You need no headset. It's more fun, yes, but no requirement at all.

Was it on PC? If you have PS3 you can download the demo and try.

Anybody with a PS3 here?

Probably. xD Let me see if the demo will even allow me to go online. I'll get back to you.

Yeah, it'll take me about two hours to download it with my connection, so it ain't happening. However, if you're on tomorrow, I might see about picking it up for rent, and we can face off then.
