I grew up in an era where gangsta rap became popular. Dirty south-side trap beats were booming out almost everywhere. I listened to everything (50 cent, Bone Crusher, lil Jon, etc.) and didn't care if it was violent, sexual, and had drug references, i was just passionate about the music. I used to rap along to songs playing on the radio (minus the cursing lol). I would actually freestyle, go online, and start rapping when i was a kid, but my mom told me rap was "bad music" so i had no choice but to stop listening to it until i grew older. I consider rap to be distinct from hip hop. Rap is more aggressive, serious, and about giving a "musical speech" whereas hip hop is about a rhythm you can dance to. I got into rap because i found it to be similar to Martin Luther King's speech "I have a dream." Rap puts more emphasis on the power of words than any other music. What about you? What got you into rap?
