Welcome back, everybody! I know it's been a little while, but I hope you're as glad as I am to see OUAD return! We'll be bigger and better than ever before!

But I don't need to talk your ear off. Let's begin!

3 Weeks After the Battle of DDO

Destruction and creation are perhaps more closely intertwined than ever opposites were.

Even love and hate do not inspire each other as do these two forces. They share the same passions, the same, raw emotion, but what love and hate do for individuals, destruction and creation do for worlds .

3 weeks' time had not allowed much room for creation. Strange, how that worked. The battle of DDO had lasted perhaps a few hours. The cleanup wasn't even halfway done.

A large tarp had been draped across the hole made in the Palace by the Practitioner's helicopter. Even the Moderator Airmax, with all his magic, hadn't been able to expedite the reparations.

What he had done was construct a monument to the fallen. It rose from the center of the Palace square the way a man in hell reaches for heaven: twisted, gnarled, a contortion so broken and yet so hopeful for grace. The names etched into its obsidian surface glowed an unearthly blue.

Airmax hadn't wanted the monument to be pretty. Death was not pretty.

With so much of the Palace in ruin, the remainder of the Kingdom's government had taken to meeting in the hospital. Known as the Health Forum, the hospital hadn't seen much activity since the Dark Plague 14 years ago. The rebellion, however, had changed that, making the Health Forum more popular than any tavern.

Because of the Health Forum's sudden overload and the necessity for confidentiality in government meetings, the government officials had taken to meeting in the rooms of whichever patient happened to be unconscious. It was a less-than ideal setup. But until Airmax was certain there wasn't any more danger to fear from the rebels - and there were plenty of reasons to be suspicious, as Daytona and Pitbull were still missing, and President Mikal had been kidnapped - then it only made sense to meet in the one place no one would dare attack.

The door to Romanii's room opened, and YYW and bsh1 entered first. They hadn't been separated from one another in the three weeks since their reunion, and though that period of time was far too inefficient to heal the scars of their forced parting, their constant unity proved a better medicine than anything NiamC, the resident doctor, could prescribe.

Most of the prominent members of the government had died or were presumed dead in the battle - RoyLatham, Bluesteel, Raisor, Zaradi, Ore_Ele, Thett, and others. Most of those who remained were low-level officials.

Bullish entered after YYW and bsh1. As deputy assistant to Bluesteel, he was, arguably, the highest-ranking member in the room. Though he lacked any real experience governing, he was determined to oversee the restoration of DDO.

After Bullish came Blade of Truth, popularly known as Truth, a name he had gained for lying through his teeth, obviously. Truth was widely regarded as one of the most popular and honest politicians involved in the Kingdom's government.

General Lannan followed after them. It was the first time he'd left his father's grave.

NiamC brought up the rear, but only because he was a doctor and had to tend to Romanii. YYW had conducted a thorough background check on NiamC. He was reputable.

"So," YYW announced, sitting in one of the chairs NiamC had arranged for their meeting. "As you've undoubtedly noticed, we're a smaller group than usual."

"This is no time to be cracking wise," Bullish growled.

"The time for mourning is over," bsh1 said, sitting next to YYW. "Though we may still grieve in our hearts, we need to show the people that we're still here. We need to show them that their leaders haven't abandoned them."

"I agree," YYW added immediately.

"What about President Mikal?" General Lannan spoke for the first time.

"Such a tragedy," said Bullish. "His death may be added to the others, but now -"

"He's not dead," Lannan insisted. "The practitioner Bladerunner abducted him!"

"Be that as it may," Bullish waved away Lannan's statement as though it were an irritating fly, "Bladerunner's hardly going to return Mikal, is he? The Kingdom needs a new leader in the interim."

"Indeed," Truth said sagely. "We must show the people that we are not headless."

"The elections are in two months," YYW said.

"We can't afford to wait," Bullish insisted. "We should appoint a temporary ruler."

"Why not just frontload the elections?" another voice asked. The remnants of the government turned to see NiamC. A pale red colored his cheeks. "I mean...you could show the people that, you know, democracy is...well...alive."

The silence grew so pronounced that it felt oppressive. NiamC contemplated jumping out the window.

"That's a good idea," bsh1 spoke up, smiling. "Thanks, NiamC!" He glanced at the others. "Does anyone have any objections?"

Bullish glowered at the doctor. "The people aren't in their right mind. Zaradi's foolish rebellion is all they can think about. They're not in any state to participate in an election."

"Leading us to tyranny so soon, Bullish?" YYW demanded.

"The first snow will fall soon," Bullish countered. "Tyranny can hardly take root in such a climate, no matter how strong a leader we have." He glared at everyone around him. "The simple fact is, with most of our administration dead or missing, I am the highest-ranking official here. Responsibility should naturally fall to me."

"That would be the order of things," Truth commented.

Bullish nodded. "Furthermore, the Kingdom is in a time of turmoil. The people need strength in their leadership." He waited, but nobody spoke up. "If we're all agreed, then this meeting is concluded." Bullish rose from his chair and, without a backward glance, swept from the room. After a moment, Truth and General Lannan followed him. Sighing, NiamC turned to the unconscious Romanii.

bsh1 and YYW traded glances. The meeting hadn't gone as either had hoped.

"Ah," NiamC coughed from behind them. "Excuse me, but I'll, uh, need the room." He weakly indicated Romanii. "The patient needs his rest."

"Of course," YYW smiled as he stood.

bsh1 gave him a quick peck on the cheek. "It'll be alright," he whispered.

"I know it will," YYW agreed, kissing him back. "It'll be better than alright. So long as we're together, nothing could be less than perfect."

They left the room, and NiamC softly shut the door behind them.

Bookworm proceeded calmly down the tiled hallway.

It was barely lit, but that no longer bothered her. The darkness swam around her, a living entity, a companion on her newest path in life. She had adjusted to its presence faster than she had anticipated. Then again, was it really such a surprise? Darkness had always been the state of the world. It was light that created illusions.

Bookworm stopped outside two doors. They were polished and intricately designed, but because of visibility, nobody would ever know that. Seventh stood waiting for her. Bookworm nodded in greeting. When she'd first found Seventh here as well, she'd been glad. Seventh had done well not to let something as stupid as love ruin her life. With any luck, Romanii had died in the battle. It was no more than he deserved.

"Bookworm," Seventh smiled in greeting. "Are you ready to go in?"

"Let's do it," Bookworm nodded. Seventh pushed open the doors, and the pair entered together.

The Night Palace wasn't a place either of them had ever heard of before. Neither of them even knew where it was, so they did not know where they were. This no longer concerned them. The entity that had induced their darkenings knew, and that was enough for them.

Even though she could barely see it, Bookworm knew the throne room was massive. She could sense it yawning before her like a great void. The silvery twinkle of starlight was the sole source of illumination. The stars couldn't be real, of course - they had to be magic of some sort.

The throne itself was a dull ruby color, a bit like a heart. Bookworm couldn't be certain, but every time the throne was outside her direct line of sight, it looked like it pulsed.

A humanoid figure stood out against the blackness. Not because it was lighter but because it was even darker, as if darkness flowed through its veins instead of blood. It spoke like the wind.

Seventh...Bookworm...welcome.

Both women nodded.

We have much work to do, the figure rasped. Despair runs high. Tensions abound. The Kingdom is ready for its darkening.

"What do you want us to do?" Seventh asked.

To find the souls of those ready to abandon this world of lies. \

"You mean, people like us," Bookworm said.

People like you used to be, corrected the figure. People who are ready to see the truth of their existence.

"Very well," Seventh and Bookworm spoke together. They needed no further clarification. They knew the sort of people they needed to find. They had been those people, once. Now -

Now, draped in darkness, they knew the truth of the world.

Far Away, in the land of Awindar....

Rina laid her palm on Mikal's cheek. He gazed into her eyes, and she into his, and their hearts spoke to one another without the need of an instrument as crude as language.

Rina's eyes closed as she brought her lips to his.

And then a bucket of ice water fell on Mikal's head.

He awoke, sputtering madly. His body shivered from the sudden blast of cold, and his senses snapped to full alert.

Two faces swam before his vision. His mind found their names. TN05 and Pots. Bladerunner's goons.

"Wakey, wakey, Mr. President," sneered TN05.

Mikal lunged for him, but the chains around his wrists arrested his momentum.

TN05 clucked softly. "Now, now, none of that. Mr. President, I do declare, that's unseemly of you. Actin' like a common fool." He laughed.

Pots grabbed Mikal by the arm. "You're wanted," he grunted, heaving Mikal to his feet with ease.

"Try to escape," TN05 whispered, "and, so help me Juggle, I will stick my dagger so far up your rear -"

"Move," Pots said, pushing Mikal, who nearly stumbled but regained his balance at the last moment. Throwing both men a look of pure disdain, Mikal tossed his head, straightened his back, and marched out of his cell.

The guards led him down a maze of windowless hallways. The sight of bland steel filled Mikal's vision until he felt like killing just to see a single plant.

Finally, they emerged in a large room made almost entirely of glass. The floor was an opaque quartz, but the rest of the room was transparent. It rose over Mikal, his guards, and everyone else in the room, sealing them all inside a crystalline grave.

Beyond the glass, Mikal saw sand. More sand than he'd ever seen in his life. Sand that looked disturbingly...alive. He could hear it whistling and howling, scraping along the glass like the skin of a shark.

Suddenly, he was grateful for the glass.

"President." Mikal recognizes Bladerunner's silky voice even before he turned to look. Sure enough, it was Bladerunner, looking as immaculate as he had three weeks ago, when he kidnapped Mikal. "Welcome to the city of Awindar."

"The weather seems to suck," Mikal said, indicating the sand.

Bladerunner picked at his sleeve. "The weather's actually quite sunny. These sandstorms can't reach the city as long as the Forecaster is active." He pointed upward. Mikal followed the gesture until he noticed a large silver spire, barely visible through the whirling sand. The spire stretched above the glance and vanished into the heavens. He couldn't be sure, but he thought he saw a faint pulse of blue mixed in.

"It's our forcefield," Bladerunner commented. "Nothing gets in or out of the city unless we allow it."

There went any solid escape plans. Mikal sighed as he faced Bladerunner. "What do you want with me?"

Bladerunner smiled invitingly. "Your Kingdom. DDO."

"Hmph." Mikal snorted. "You'll never have that."

"Do you really think so?" Bladerunner sounded amused. "It's amazing to me how your Kingdom has lasted so long. The only reasons they have guns, phones, even electricity, is because of us. Bladerunner stepped closer. "For too long, your Kingdom has relied on the wisdom and guidance of its Moderators. For too long, your Kingdom has relied on magic." He spat out the word magic, as though it were distasteful. "Soon they shall see the power enlightenment can bring."

At that moment, another Practitioner entered the room. He didn't seem the least bit surprised to find Mikal there. Ignoring the President completely, he strode over to Bladerunner.

"The Inventor requests your presence."

Bladerunner frowned. "What? Now?"

The other Practitioner nodded. Bladerunner groaned. "Thank you, Envisage. Have Mikal escorted back to his cell, would you?"

"If I must," replied Envisage blandly. He snapped his fingers, and Pots and TN05 sprung to attention.

"It was a pleasure doing business with you, Mikal," Bladerunner waved as he departed the dome. "We'll chat again soon."

Then he was gone, and all Mikal could think about was sand.

"I know it will," YYW agreed, kissing him back. "It'll be better than alright. So long as we're together, nothing could be less than perfect."

I see where this is going.
They left the room, and NiamC softly shut the door behind them.

Why's Niam so timid? I mean, he's usually on the bottom when you have a fling with him, but still...

Oh, and seeing as you released the first episode...I have to start working on chapter nine now. Crap. >.>

Welcome back, everybody! I know it's been a little while, but I hope you're as glad as I am to see OUAD return! We'll be bigger and better than ever before!

YAY

But I don't need to talk your ear off. Let's begin!

3 Weeks After the Battle of DDO

Destruction and creation are perhaps more closely intertwined than ever opposites were.
Interesting

Even love and hate do not inspire each other as do these two forces. They share the same passions, the same, raw emotion, but what love and hate do for individuals, destruction and creation do for worlds .

Siggable.

3 weeks' time had not allowed much room for creation. Strange, how that worked. The battle of DDO had lasted perhaps a few hours. The cleanup wasn't even halfway done.

death... so much death...

>:
Airmax hadn't wanted the monument to be pretty. Death was not pretty.

hmm... but life is pretty... and death and life are intertwined...

With so much of the Palace in ruin, the remainder of the Kingdom's government had taken to meeting in the hospital. Known as the Health Forum, the hospital hadn't seen much activity since the Dark Plague 14 years ago. The rebellion, however, had changed that, making the Health Forum more popular than any tavern.

rofl

Where's debate now romanii?!

Truth was widely regarded as one of the most popular and honest politicians involved in the Kingdom's government.
lawl

General Lannan followed after them. It was the first time he'd left his father's grave.
awwwwwwww
NiamC brought up the rear, but only because he was a doctor and had to tend to Romanii. YYW had conducted a thorough background check on NiamC. He was reputable.
(: le duh... niam is a sweetheart

Oh lannan...

"Be that as it may," Bullish waved away Lannan's statement as though it were an irritating fly, "Bladerunner's hardly going to return Mikal, is he? The Kingdom needs a new leader in the interim."
^ Bullish wants leadership... I don't trust him
"Indeed," Truth said sagely. "We must show the people that we are not headless."
Well- annie! behave!!

NiamC contemplated jumping out the window.
lol niam. dont! they need you
"That's a good idea," bsh1 spoke up, smiling.

(mutiny)
"The first snow will fall soon," Bullish countered. "Tyranny can hardly take root in such a climate, no matter how strong a leader we have." He glared at everyone around him. "The simple fact is, with most of our administration dead or missing, I am the highest-ranking official here. Responsibility should naturally fall to me."

"That would be the order of things," Truth commented.
Bullish/Truth seems like an ... interesting play...

The meeting hadn't gone as either had hoped.
aww
"Ah," NiamC coughed from behind them. "Excuse me, but I'll, uh, need the room." He weakly indicated Romanii. "The patient needs his rest."

"Of course," YYW smiled as he stood.

bsh1 gave him a quick peck on the cheek. "It'll be alright," he whispered.

"I know it will," YYW agreed, kissing him back. "It'll be better than alright. So long as we're together, nothing could be less than perfect."
AWW
(BS)

They left the room, and NiamC softly shut the door behind them.

Bookworm proceeded calmly down the tiled hallway.

dun dun dun
It was barely lit, but that no longer bothered her. The darkness swam around her, a living entity, a companion on her newest path in life. She had adjusted to its presence faster than she had anticipated. Then again, was it really such a surprise? Darkness had always been the state of the world. It was light that created illusions.
You know me so well
Bookworm stopped outside two doors.
Again- you know me so well
"Bookworm," Seventh smiled in greeting.

The entity that had induced their darkenings knew, and that was enough for them.
hmm
Even though she could barely see it, Bookworm knew the throne room was massive. She could sense it yawning before her like a great void. The silvery twinkle of starlight was the sole source of illumination. The stars couldn't be real, of course - they had to be magic of some sort.

The throne itself was a dull ruby color, a bit like a heart. Bookworm couldn't be certain, but every time the throne was outside her direct line of sight, it looked like it pulsed.
O:
A humanoid figure stood out against the blackness. Not because it was lighter but because it was even darker, as if darkness flowed through its veins instead of blood. It spoke like the wind.

Seventh...Bookworm...welcome.

Both women nodded.

We have much work to do, the figure rasped. Despair runs high. Tensions abound. The Kingdom is ready for its darkening.
(rm)
"What do you want us to do?" Seventh asked.

To find the souls of those ready to abandon this world of lies. \

group suicide or massacre?
"You mean, people like us," Bookworm said.

People like you used to be, corrected the figure. People who are ready to see the truth of their existence.

hmmmm
"Very well," Seventh and Bookworm spoke together. They needed no further clarification. They knew the sort of people they needed to find. They had been those people, once. Now -

Now, draped in darkness, they knew the truth of the world.
interesting

Far Away, in the land of Awindar....

Rina laid her palm on Mikal's cheek. He gazed into her eyes, and she into his, and their hearts spoke to one another without the need of an instrument as crude as language.

aww
Rina's eyes closed as she brought her lips to his.

And then a bucket of ice water fell on Mikal's head.
poof you're awake

He awoke, sputtering madly. His body shivered from the sudden blast of cold, and his senses snapped to full alert.

Two faces swam before his vision. His mind found their names. TN05 and Pots. Bladerunner's goons.
pots :D

He could hear it whistling and howling, scraping along the glass like the skin of a shark.

hmmmm dat imagery
Suddenly, he was grateful for the glass.

"President." Mikal recognizes Bladerunner's silky voice even before he turned to look. Sure enough, it was Bladerunner, looking as immaculate as he had three weeks ago, when he kidnapped Mikal. "Welcome to the city of Awindar."

"The weather seems to suck," Mikal said, indicating the sand.
That's what she said.

Interesting

"It's our forcefield," Bladerunner commented. "Nothing gets in or out of the city unless we allow it."
oh la la
There went any solid escape plans. Mikal sighed as he faced Bladerunner. "What do you want with me?"

Bladerunner smiled invitingly. "Your Kingdom. DDO."

"Hmph." Mikal snorted. "You'll never have that."
like you have a choice?
"Do you really think so?" Bladerunner sounded amused. "It's amazing to me how your Kingdom has lasted so long. The only reasons they have guns, phones, even electricity, is because of us. They understand nothing about science. Why do you think they call us, Practitioners of the Silver Arts? They know nothing about what we do."

Ooohhh
It'd be ironic if... nah

Then he was gone, and all Mikal could think about was sand.
hmmm
