Hello!

People keep saying the little mermaid is sexist (and I'm like, nah), and I was like, "Let's start a forum thing and argue with people!"

Okay?

Disney is awful in terms of subliminal messages. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it featured some elements of sexism (even though that's not really a subliminal message). At-least it's not like 'The Rescuers' which featured a topless chick in the background.

You have to keep in mind that 'The Little Mermaid' is not written by Disney, but actually by a Danish author Hans Christian Andersen in the 19th century. Disney have simply "disneyfied" the story (since in the original story, Ariel dies). I really do not know why people see it as sexist.

Obviously. The Patriarchy took away Ariel's legs. It's symbolism for how powerless they want women to be.
Guess what I used to type this..
