"The Collectivist experiment is thoroughly suited (in appearance at least) to the Capitalist society which it proposes to replace. It works with the existing machinery of Capitalism, talks and thinks in the existing terms of Capitalism, appeals to just those appetites which Capitalism has aroused, and ridicules as fantastic and unheard-of just those things in society the memory of which Capitalism has killed among men wherever the blight of it has spread."

I just started listening to Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. It's like electronic classical, and it's awesome. I'll use this thread to showcase their best compositions.

Of course there are other songs I like, But these are what I'm listening to now (as well as some live Velvet Underground).
I'm becoming less defined as days go by, fading away, and well you might say, I'm losing focus, kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself.

This is too subjective a topic to debate. There are plenty of songs mentioned here that I think are bad, but I believe other people enjoy listening to these songs, Therefore if I say a song is crap, and 2 people say that is one of the songs that makes them feel better when they are stuck in a traffic jam and this song is on the radio, I lose the argument.

Oh...I agree.

In fact I would go so far as to say that Paint it Black could be in the TOP 20 Rock Songs Ever on anyone's list. The lyrics conveyed the "rocker angst" and rebellious nature very well. And that awesome classical guitar. I think they even had some sitar action going on in there.

i am a huge Stones fan (gee...how can ya tell? My username is from one of my faves of their--and indeed one of what I think is there most underrated songs). So I feel that they were probably the best group EVER at speaking of the darker and more cynical side of rock and roll. And going beyond the age-worn "unrequited love" and "let's party till we puke" lyrical content.

"Sympathy For the Devil" and "Gimme Shelter" and "Heartbreaker" are all excellent examples of this.

And I think that those too could be on any Top 50 list. But like somebody said earlier: this is a VERY subjective topic--one that is basically impossible to prove. But it is a fun one!

I am calling equine poo-poo on that interpretation of the "Peg" lyrics.

Let's look at 'em.......

Peg
Song by Steely Dan
I've seen your picture
Your name in lights above it
This is your big debut
It's like a dream come true
So, won't you smile for the cam'ra?
I know they're gonna love it, Peg
I like your pin shot
I keep it with your letter
Done up in blue print blue
It sure looks good on you
And when you smile for the cam'ra?
I know I'll love you better
Peg, it will come back to you
Peg, it will come back to you
Then the shutter falls
You see it all in "Three-D"
It's your favourite foreign movie
I like your pin shot
I keep it with your letter
Done up in blue print blue
It sure looks good on you
And when you smile for the cam'ra?
I know I'll love you better

See? Obviously about a chick named Peg.
Any other lyrics ya wanna discuss? LOL
