So I was watching a review for the BVS movie and someone was trying to give justification for why Batman in this movie kills people. He brought up the "Killing Joke" story-line, where he believed that at the end of it Batman killed the Joker, which he believed symbolizing Batman "snapping". Here's the full panel: http://images.sequart.org... http://i322.photobucket.com...

So, I normally stay away from comic-book fandom, but for those of you who have read it do you think that Batman did actually kill the Joker at the end of this arc?

According to Monty Python, The killer joke was written by a man who read what he had just wrote and died laughing. This happened during world war 2. the British army wanted to use it as a weapon. If it could be translated into German, a recording of it could be played during a battle and the Germans would die laughing.

First off, The Killing Joke is one of the best graphic novels I've ever read. I absolutely love it and it shaped comics for years.

From what I recall, the author claimed that the final panel is supposed to represent Batman killing the Joker. The light goes out, just like the Joker's story; one mad man "turning off the light" on the other. He also explained that this ending is supposed to be an alternate reality. Obviously in canon, Batman doesn't kill Joker because he's still alive while Barbara Gordon is still paralyzed.

I think Killing Joke is a rather weak explanation for Batman killing people in BvS, though. There are other cases of Batman killing people which are actually in canon. Still, my favorite interpretations of the character are those that do not kill. That is the crux of the character and his moral code.

The Joker is one of most popular villans in Batman. He will be back.

That was obvious.

Yeah, looks like Jokey's dead in that reality.

Maikuru is correct in that the author's interpretation was that Batman killed Joker. Take a watch of "The Dark Knight" returns animated movies (there's only 2) to see Batman lose his sh1t and do it again. It's a great watch.

Mark Hamill will be voicing the joker. This is going to be legendary.
