Intro

This thread will contain the results of the DDOlympics held in the summer of 2016. Please do not post in this thread; I intend to have it stickied, if only for a short while. If you wish to discuss the results, please feel free to post here instead [http://www.debate.org...]. Results will be announced as they come in.

I would like to thank all 26 participants of these DDOlympic Games for their efforts, whether they win or lose. No competition of any kind on DDO has ever had so many people participating as contestants, not counting the judges and myself. Their endeavors in generating high-quality content for the site should be applauded.

Fan Fiction: Short-Form

About the Event

Competitors were asked to write a short story between 6,000 and 16,000 characters. There were three judges who were asked to grade based on factors such as creativity, grammar, plot development, character depth, readability, and likeability, though there was no specific rubric. Stories could be about any topic the writers' wanted.

Score Results

It was possible to earn up to 10 pts. from each judge, for a perfect cumulative score of 30 pts. To separate silver and bronze, I was compelled to use the first tie-braking mechanism (who had the single highest score between them). These scores were tabulated by myself, and certified after only after the judges had confirmed the accuracy of my tabulations.

Fan Fiction: Long-form

About the Event

Competitors were asked to write a short story between 17,000 and 32,000 characters. These stories consisted of two discrete parts. There were three judges who were asked to grade based on factors such as creativity, grammar, plot development, character depth, readability, and likeability, though there was no specific rubric. Judges grade each part individually, and graded the story overall. Stories could be about any topic the writers' wanted.

Score Results

It was possible to earn up to 10 pts. from each judge for each discrete segment, and up to 20 pts. for the overall story and how the two parts fit together. Thus, each judge could assign up to 40 pts. each, for a perfect cumulative score of 120 pts. These scores were tabulated by myself, and certified after only after the judges had confirmed the accuracy of my tabulations.

Imabench: 70.5 pts.
Blade-of-Truth: 87.5 pts.
ShabShoral: 89.25 pts.

Medalists

Silver:

Fan Fiction: Team Story

About the Event

Competitors formed into teams of 2-4 and were asked to collaboratively write a short story between 12,000 and 24,000 characters. There were two judges (originally three) who were asked to grade based on factors such as creativity, grammar, plot development, character depth, readability, and likeability, though there was no specific rubric. Stories could be about any topic the teams wanted.

Score Results

It was possible to earn up to 10 pts. from each judge, for a perfect cumulative score of 30 pts. Since only two judges provided scores out of the original three, all teams had their best scores doubled to simulate a third score. These scores were tabulated by myself, and certified after only after the judges had confirmed the accuracy of my tabulations.

Vaarka/Ciacco: 11.0 pts.
ThinkBig/Fire_Wings: 10.0 pts.
MissMozart/Biodome: 24.25 pts.
Diqiucun_Cunmin/UtherPenguin: 20.0 pts.
SeventhProfessor/ShabShoral/Skepsikyma/Thett3: 10.5 pts.

Silver:

Diqiucun_Cunmin/UtherPenguin

Bronze:

Debate Tournament: Team

About the Event

Debaters formed teams together and were placed into a power paired bracket based on their team's average ELO. The bracket was double-elimination, meaning that those who lost their first round were demoted from the up-bracket to the down-bracket. A loss in the down-bracket bumped one out of the tournament.

Medalists

Hayd and Tejretics

Silver:

Danielle and Lannan13

Bronze:

TN05 and Warren42

Facts and Info

More people competed in the DDO Olympics than any other tournament or competition in DDO history. 18 people out of 26 were honored with some kind of medal, and generated 18 debates, 42 forum posts, 17 votes, and 16 fan fics. That is--needless to say--a lot of activity and content. All in all, this tournament was a success in it's core missions: positively recognizing users and sparking activity and discussion on the site. It may have taken awhile to conclude, but the sheer scope and volume of the DDOlympics is a testament to its achievements. Thank you to all who participated, judged, and spectated--you made all of this possible. I appreciate it!
