Trying out a new game similar to Mafia, and I'm curious to see (least for now) if I can get 10 people interested in it.

This is a five-round game, similar to Mafia, but without elimination.

The goal of the game is for your faction to win three rounds. The factions are the Rebels and the Spies. The Rebels' goal is to successfully complete three missions, bringing down the Empire. The Imperial Spies' goal is to successfully sabotage three missions.

At the beginning of a round, I will assign a leader to begin. The leader must assign three people to carry out the mission. This assignment is then voted on. If the vote succeeds, the round is over. The next phase, I will announce if the mission was successful. A mission is successful if only Rebels carry it out. If a Spy is in the mission, the mission fails.

However, if the assignment fails, and the leader does NOT receive a majority vote, a new leader is assigned. This continues until an assignment is voted on. If no leader can have his assignment carried out, then the Spies automatically win the round.

The amount of people needed for each assignment increases by one on the second and fourth phases.

Feel free to ask questions about this game. I'm still trying to make it so that it can run great online. Naturally this is more of a trial run, but I think DDO deserves another great game to play besides Mafia. So hopefully it will run alright.

This game can be played with only five players if needed, but I believe a bigger game will be more fun.

Not to burst the bubble here Torres, but I don't quite see how this is different from a roleless Mafia game. Do both sides of roles? Otherwise it's leader chooses x,y,z somewhat out of luck.

It's not too different. The MAJOR difference is no nightkills. The other change I'm going to implement is the Spies will know each other, but can't communicate out of game (like Mafia).

And understand, this may not be the final version of the game. Remember Askbob's beginner games? They start roleless just to get the hang of things and to try out the mechanics. I want to make sure the mechanics work, and I can tweak the game from there.

So yes. Currently, the game relies mostly on behavior and logic. And without a private PM, it especially requires careful wording and persuasion.

Leader's can choose themselves to go on their own missions (forget to include that). So it's Leader chooses X, Y, Z, but to make that decision they have to use previous mission successes and failures, trust, persuasion, and they have to gather support from everyone else in the game. So it's not only up to them, everyone has to approve. There's strategy here. Try it out, and I'm sure you'll see what I mean.

Wow. Only two people?

Give it a chance guys. It really shouldn't last long. Heck, I could even have the game work with FIVE people, but I don't think it'd be as fun.

And really, I'm open to tweaks! If you have any suggestions on how you think the game may be better, I'm more than happy to hear it. But I want to at least get a game GOING.

explain what the missions are a little more and how voting on them works and I might consider signing up.

cause from the way it reads i'm not sure the spies can lose. if a spy is on a mission mission fails, so they simply have to vote on whatever mission its apparent will pass and it fails right? or did I miss something on what put you on a mission?

The missions are basically the end goal of a phase. The leader's job is to assign three people to carry out the mission. The rest of the players then vote on the leader's decision. If there's a majority, the phase ends with the "mission" being carried out. The success is announced the next day. If it failed, it's up to the players to figure out who of the three is a Spy.

It's a behavioral game. Similar to Mafia in that respect. To find spies, you must use logic and analysis, as well as perception and gut-feeling.

Thank you. To anyone signing up, I'd appreciate it if you could recruit others to join. I'm trying, but you can see how successful that's gone. And I don't want to be a spammer.

I just think something like 8-player game where each player is assigned a continent and you state your battle plan to conquer the world is pretty cool.
The other players will have to come up with their counter attacks....

This is just an idea.
