I've just finished perfecting a riddle. Let's see if DDO's intellectual power can solve it.

Imagine a world in which, any time two people pass each other, they must greet each other warmly. Imagine further that two strangers pass each other on a street. Yet, only one of the men greets the other. Moreover, when asked later, neither recalls having been greeted. Which man greeted his fellow stranger?

The man standing in the world where people must greet each other?

Seems feasible but I don't know what the memory loss part means.

Could it be that they are both dead and that one of them was dead while they passed each other?

This is too straight-forward of an answer for a good riddle but I think it still works.

Riddles with make believe elements you have no access to are not riddles, they are b@stard spawns of idiot minds.

One of them is a total paraplegic with short term memory loss. He is in a wheelchair being dragged along by a eunuch pirate named Alex. The other man is Gordon Brown and a total bender.
Therefore the paraplegic can not greet Gordy, and doesn't remember being greeted

Lol. From here on, I'm only going to respond to the right answer, I think, rather than giving the thumbs-down to all the wrong theories.

Eh if one is unaware of the other then "to let go without notice" is a pass for one. Neither would have been aware of a greet in that case.

One of the men is deaf, mute, and blind. He could not greet the other man, nor would he be able to realize that the other man had greeted him, because he wasn't even aware of the other man's existence.

Well the other man wasn't greeted so he wouldn't recall it.

Not the point. If asked and "neither recalls" that is explicitly that the asked understands the question. If able to understand the question then either 1. Isn't a blind deaf mute or 2. Is a blind deaf mute that can communicate. If 2. then greeting can occur anyway.

One is merely blind, greeting was a big smile and wave or something similarly nonverbally warm. The nonblind one did all the greeting. Keeps alive the whole "asking" thing.

Perhaps communication requires special effort from the other party and the and the greeter was unaware of this at the time.

Yeah but then you have a society that has a strict rule on greeting but no format for obvious normal exceptions. Which just brings us back to b@stard spawn. :P

of course the guy who did the greeting wouldn't remember being greeted because he wasn't greeted.
