Why do some mods post the entire role PMs of lynched players (Ore_Ele, Medic, Danielle's miscellaneous game), whereas others only post "innocent" or "guilty" (Bluesteel)? Still others post nothing at all (TV, Danielle's classic game).

How does it affect game balance and what is the reason for posting or not posting roles/affiliations at the end of the Day Phase rather than waiting until the next Day Phase? Which is preferable in general? What is the motivation for posting affiliation but not role at the end of the DP?

It's a matter of information. Obviously, the more information revealed the better for the town.

Knowing if somebody is guilty of not really helps because then you have a better idea of whether you are at lylo or mylo or just in general with who the guilty player allied with and so forth.

Knowing a person's role can validate their actions, but more importantly it can tell you which Mafia are left (ie. knock out a roleblocker and you have a lot more freedom in NP plans) .

Knowing nothing means you've got to be cautious more often than you'd like, so you can't be aggressive when you want to.

Essentially, moderators choose what to reveal based upon how much information they wish the town to know prior to NP actions.

It's certainly a balance issue, as opposed to simply personal preference, and there are varying grades. You can reveal nothing, just alignment, role, everything. Also when, when they're lynched, or the next phase?

Less information hurts town, obviously, so it should be a balance consideration.

I prefer not to release the information as it gives mafia more incentive to make sacrificial/risky plays and it makes town more cautious, which makes for a fun game I think.
