Indeed. My favourite part about chess is apart from who goes first, both players are perfectly equal and there is no random chance involved. Great, great game.

I enjoy chess. Chinese chess, or xiangqi, is also extremely challenging and addictive. It introduces new pieces and rules without losing any of the strategy or fairness. If you haven't tried it, I highly encourage it. You can play online.

I am also always down for a good 8 hour game of Risk.

Chess is indeed a great game. I also recommend other (no luck) strategy games in general - shogi, pentago, English draughts (commonly called checkers) and chinese checkers come to mind.

Wallstreetatheist, if you wish to play chess online against people from DDO try chess.com . At one point a few people (including myself and TV) tried to form a DDO chess club, but it didn't work.

Maikuru, where can one play chinese chess online? Also, any good places to learn?

Wallstreetatheist, out of interest, do you have an form of official rating? (I don't)

The sophisticated and nuanced t strategy is addictive. I started in late November at around a 400 Elo rating, now I'm at 1202. Chess.com is a great site. It's in my top five: DDO, chess.com, YouTube, Facebook, econlib.org. Chinese chess sounds interesting. I often think about new pieces that could be used in chess, so I'd probably enjoy it.

Computers will never win every chess game, because they are incapable of optimal chess play. The brute force method is subject to that.
