Could people point me in the direction of a few Mafia games that had particularly unique or interesting mechanics? Thanks.

Mine will have some. I promise.

Scifi mafia: mafia, that could pass on abilities upon death, townies with time reversal roles, role recyclers

Monetary mafia: Anyone could have any power.

Cult mafia: Recruit based win ability rather than direct kills, similiar to my "the thing" game.

DDO members: All third party or mafia, no town.

Those are the ones off the top of my head.

I think most mafia games that have mechanics too unique are often not as successful as they could be. The Batman game for instance wasn't as fun as a game where town needed to find mafia. The ???? mafia where the mafia modded the game (essentially) also wasn't up to par. Eragon is another example where it didn't really feel like a mafia game at all. I really liked the Monetary game but there was the potential for every townie to become a vig which made it very swingy. With a bit of tweaking though, it could be really good. I also don't like games with revivers as they tend to unbalance the game. There can be some interesting and unique roles but they usually don't work out very well.

I'll presume 'mechanics' to mean interesting roles, not interesting concepts.

Try Sherlock Holmes Mafia http://www.debate.org... . Basically, there are 2 semi-separate games going on - fictional and non-fictional. Also, shows you just how different Mafia SOP and such used to be...

Also, Blue's Naruto Mafia game had a very interesting 'Ninja Framer' role http://www.debate.org... . This role caused mass confusion, plus, the town politician didn't CC a Mafia fake claim, which totally screwed the town.

Also, I'll reluctantly include Freedo's game http://www.debate.org... . That both paranoid cops investigated both jesters NP 1 and 2 was unbelievably unlucky.

Also, Mafia lovers (well, partially) are fairly rare but made an appearance in Assassin's Creed Mafia http://www.debate.org... . This game is also interesting in showing why townies shouldn't lie (Mestari's fake claim...) .

I think you'd have seen nearly everything after that. Of course, this list is a small list that likely misses many things. Note that in older games roles were a lot simpler and not multi-layered.

Well, that rather destroys my list. The Sherlock Holmes game had an interesting concept though.

Lynch-O-Tron
The Mod - (5/5)
- Marauder, lovelife, rogue, andro, headphone
lovelife - (1/5) - merda
No Lynch - (1/5) - OreEle

The Mod has been Lynched. Get your night phase actions in.

^ That is the funniest thing I've read in a mafia game.
Rules of Mafia

1. Mestari is never third party.
2. If Mestari claims an intricate and page long TP role, he's telling the truth.
3. Mestari always jointly wins with the town.
3b. If he doesn't he's mafia.
3c. If he was mafia you wouldn't suspect him in the first place.
4. If you lynch Mestari you will lose because he will be the third party Doctor or some other townie power role.
5. DP1 lynches are good.
6. The answer is always no.

Oh hey... I learned my lesson, no need to remind me!

What are mechanics that people would like to see introduced into a mafia game?
