EpicMafia is a chat-room based Mafia site that can be found here: http://www.epicmafia.com.... The games here are usually quick and small, running anywhere from 3 to 12 players and lasting about 10-20 minutes. It is fun in its own right (IMO) and plenty of players here do (or used to) play there. While Epic certainly has its own paradigm with respect to Mafia (how to play, strategies, tactics, etc.) and with its own mechanics and roles, I still think there are plenty of valuable lessons that can be learned there and applied here.

My next game is about the merging of EpicMafia and DDO Mafia. How? Basically it will be entirely EpicMafia Roles and Mechanics applied to the medium and format of DDO, where applicable. There are certainly roles and mechanics that, for practical and technical reasons, cannot be applied here. Don't worry, I will explicitly detail how this game is going to work.

The foundation of this game will be a 12-player format commonly seen in the Sandbox room of EpicMafia. It involves randomization of roles between 7 Townies, 2 Third Parties, and 3 Mafiosos.

Game Information, including Significant Deviations from DDO

1. This Game Starts in the Night Phase. This game will start at Night, and everyone will submit their night actions. In DDO, Day and Night phases are numbered in that order (Day/Night) so Night Phase 1 comes after Day Phase 1. In Epic, it is the reverse. However, to keep things simple, I am simply going to call the first Night Phase, NP0, so the relative ordering stays the same.

2. Recruitment Replaces Your Role. If you are recruited into a group (Masons, Cult, Mafia), your original role is eliminated and you simply become a "Vanilla" member of that group.

3. Ordering of Events:

A. Conversions - Mason first, then Cult, then Amnesiac, then Yakuza
B. Conversions vs. Investigations - A player investigated the same night they are converted will give a report as their pre-converted role/alignment.
C. Conversions vs. Kills - Both the Conversion and the kill will go through. For example, the Cult Leader converts the Vigilante who targeted the Cult Leader. The Vigilante is successfully converted to Cult, however, the kill goes through on the Cult Leader, which subsequently kills all the Cult, including the newly Culted Vigilante.
D. What Measure is Death? - Getting killed generally does not interfere with a role action being successful, barring specific exceptions. You will get reports on dead people. While on Epic you will still get reports if you die, I will not do that here in case people wish to come in as a replacement.

4. Groups Vote on Actions Taken by That Group. For Masons, Cult, and Mafia, the choice of recruitment/kill is taken by vote. This is important for the following reasons:

A. If the group cannot achieve a majority vote, the relevant action will not happen.
B. Players will be seen (on Tracker reports) as having visited the player they voted for, whether or not that player was the majority vote. The first player to vote on a majority vote will appear on watcher reports. For the mafia, this is in addition to any other abilities, which will always appears on Tracker/Watcher reports (unless you are a Ninja).

5. Almost all roles require the player to visit its target, if there is a target to choose. The exceptions are Oracle and Watcher. If roleblocked, you will still be seen as visiting your target, but nothing will happen except that you appear on Watcher/Tracker reports.

6. Role Confirmation is Affiliation Confirmation. While some roles have identical functions, EpicMafia distinguishes between them with different names (Watcher vs. Lookout; Detective vs. Stalker). So, if you can confirm yourself as being a given role, that equals affiliation confirmation.

7. Death = Shot. Except for being lynched, Werewolves, and Lovers, any death mechanism, despite its name or flavoring, is treated as a "shot." As such, it will be prevented from anything that prevents death by "shots." This leads to counter-intuitive situations where a Bulletproof vest stops poison, or bombs.

8. Unless explicitly noted, almost all visiting roles cannot self-target.

9. Some Mafia roles are not part of the Mafia PM. Only members of the Mafia PM may vote to kill someone as part of the Mafia Night Kill. If no such members exist, the Mafia do not get a Night Kill. While Mafia members are not explicitly told who is and is not part of the PM, it is easy to infer from whispers and target limitations. Since those don't apply on DDO, I will explicitly tell Mafia members who is and is not part of the Mafia PM.

10. Win Conditions. The game ends as soon as at least one faction achieves their win condition. If multiple factions achieve their win condition at the same time, they win simultaneously. For example, if the Mafia lynch the Fool (Jester) to achieve a majority, both the Mafia and the Fool win.

11. This game is semi-open. There are 12 players, 7 Townies, 2 Third Parties, and 3 Mafiosos. There will only be one of each role.

A. The 7 Townies will be chosen from the following set: Loudmouth, Town Drunk, Vanilla, Samurai, Turncoat, Mimic, Treestump, Blacksmith, Watcher, Bodyguard, Vigilante, Miller, Sheriff, Tracker, Oracle, Detective, Judge, Dreamer, Granny, Journalist, Hunter, Nurse, Shrink, Bulletproof, Mason, Enchantress, Santa, Priest, Snoop, Virgin, Governor, Gunsmith, Agent, Bomb, Deputy, Cop, Insane Cop, Doctor

B. The 2 Third Parties will be chosen from the following set: Survivor, Cult Leader, Amnesiac, Alien, Killer, Prophet, Traitor, Warlock, Creepy Girl, Angel, Lyncher, Lover, Zombie, Politician, Monk, Werewolf, Fool (Note: Some "Third Parties" explicitly win with a specific faction, such as Traitor and Politician, but still take up a "Third Party" slot)

C. The 3 Mafia will be chosen from the following set: Paralyzer, Interceptor, Enforcer, Yakuza, Thief, Lookout, Quack, Godfather, Framer, Informant, Tailor, Poisoner, Janitor, Actress, Scout, Lawyer, Witch, Driver, Voodoo Lady, Spy, Ninja, Goon, Paparazzi, Sniper, Silencer, Hooker, Saboteur, Stalker.

12. Role Descriptions and Notes.

General Note: I am not adhering to EpicMafia 100% for a variety of reasons. While I encourage reading the wiki (http://wiki.epicmafia.com...), the descriptions here take precedence.

Loudmouth - Town. Is told that they are Vanilla. At the beginning of each Day Phase, the mod will publicly announce everyone that visited that player during the previous night (the Loudmouth's identity is kept hidden). Cannot be converted.

Town Drunk - Town. Roleblocker. Will prevent visiting roles from completing their visits. They will still visit their target, but nothing will happen. Roles that do not visit are unaffected. Will prevent the Mafia Night-kill if there is only one Mafia left.

Vanilla - Town.

Samurai - Town. Will kill anyone that attempts to convert it (max: 2 kills). Cannot be converted.

Turncoat - Town. If targeted by the Mafia to die, will survive the kill and be converted to a Traitor instead.

Mimic - Town. May visit one person at night (once per game). If the Mimic visits a Town Power Role (non-Vanilla), the Mimic will become that role and that player will become Vanilla. If the Mimic visits a Mafioso, the Mimic will become Vanilla and the Mafioso will be unaffected. If the Mimic visits a 3rd party, the Mimic will become an Amnesiac and the 3rd party will be unaffected.

Special Interactions:
- Nothing happens if the Mimic visits a Vanilla
- The Mimic treats Millers as if they were actually Mafia
- If a Shrink targets himself, the Mimic will still copy his role, and the Shrink will still remain a shrink.
- Since the effects of the Mimic count as a conversion, he will be killed by the Samurai, who keeps his role. The copy effect will still take place, so the Mimic will die as a Samurai
- The Mimic can copy Trees, but Trees won't become Vanillas
- The Mimic will not die if copying the Granny (PGO)
- If the Mimic copies a Mason, he will replace him in the PM
- Despite being Third Party, Mimics will successfully copy and steal Politicians
- If Mimic copies a Turncoat on the same night Turncoat is shot by the mafia, the Turncoat becomes Vanilla (and still survives the shot).
- If Mimic copies Deputy or Sheriff, he becomes the role, but doesn't get a gun.

Treestump - Town. Once per game may become a Tree at night. Trees cannot be killed, lynched, or converted, except by Werewolf or Lover. Trees cannot vote.

Blacksmith - Town. May visit one person at night and give them a bulletproof vest. Bulletproof vests convey 1-shot immunity to kills (except lynches, lovers, and werewolves). Vests may stack. Vests may be stolen.

Watcher - Town. May watch one person every night and see who visits them. May self-watch. For group-decided actions, will only see the first person voting for the majority action. Does not visit, therefore: will not be tracked, and is immune to Granny, Driver, Town Drunk, Interceptor, Witch, and Hooker.

Special Interactions:
- Can see a hidden Survivor, and will see anyone that attempts visit a hidden Survivor.
- If watching the victim of a passive/reactive kill (Mason who Mismasons, person killed by Interceptor ability) he will see the source of the kill (Mafia Mason target, Interceptor) as having visited the victim. Example: Watcher A watches Mason B who recruits Mafia C. B dies from mismason, A sees C visiting B.

Bodyguard - Town. May visit one person every night. If that person would die, there is a 50% chance the Bodyguard will kill the killer and a 50% chance he will die in place of the victim.

Vigilante - Town. May visit one person every night and kill them. Vigilantes shoot at the same time as Killers, but after Mafia. If Vigilante and Mafia target each other for death, the Vigilante dies before being shot.

Miller - Town. Is told that they are Vanilla. If investigated as Cop or lynched, will appear as Mafia. If killed during the Night, will appear as Miller. Wears a suit.

Sheriff - Town. Has a gun that cannot be stolen. May shoot one person per game during the day. Identity will be revealed when the gun is shot. Shots during the day trigger Bombs, killing the Sheriff. Shots during the day will be stopped by Bulletproof players and Grannies. Gun can be sabotaged.

Tracker - Town. May visit one person every night. Will see everyone that player visits.

Special Interactions:
- If a member of a group voting for a group action, the Tracker will see his target visit whoever that person voted for, majority vote or not.
- Kills and Roleblocks don't stop visits, so Tracker will see players visit their targets even if the Tracker's target was roleblocked or killed.
- Like the Watcher, Trackers will see killers visiting their victims in response to passive/reactive kills.

Oracle - Town. Must choose a person each night. Upon death (by any means), the role of the last chosen person will be publicly revealed. This does not count as a visit, so doesn't trigger reactive kills and doesn't appear on Tracker/Watcher reports.

Special Interactions:
- If the Oracle choose a player who subsequently dies and has their role hidden by a Janitor, and the Oracle dies before choosing another target, the Janitored player's role will be revealed.
- Sanities of Cops are revealed.
- If the Oracle target is converted, the Oracle will reveal them as the role they had at the beginning of the Night they were chosen.

Detective - Town. Role Cop. May visit one person every night and learn their role.

Special Interaction:
- Actress will appear as whatever role they are impersonating.
- Players with suits will appear as whatever suit they are holding.
- Will see Millers as Millers and Godfathers as Godfathers
- Learns role at the beginning of the Night, before any conversions. (Also, Actresses and Tailors don't give out suits or impersonate until the end of the Night, so Night 1 reports by Detectives are always accurate, unless Driven)

Judge - Town. Doublevoter.

Dreamer - Town. Will dream each night. Will dream of either A) three people at least one of whom is mafia; or B) one person who is innocent. Guilty and Innocence is identical to being investigated by a Sane Cop (Millers are Mafia, Godfathers are Innocent, etc). Dreamers will not dream if visited at night.

Granny - Town. Paranoid Gun Owner. Will kill anyone who visits at night. Is also immune to being killed (except lynching and werewolves). Can be converted, but will kill the converter.

Journalist - Town. May visit a person every Night. Will receive any messages that person receives.

Hunter - Town. If lynched, may shoot one player.

Nurse - Town. Jailkeeper. Doctor + Town Drunk. (All abilities and special interactions that apply to Doctors and Town Drunks apply to the Nurse).

Shrink - Town. May visit a person every Night. Prevents that person from being converted. May self-visit. Converts Killer to Vanilla.

Bulletproof - Town. Can survive one death (by shot).

Mason - Town. May vote to visit and recruit another person into the Masons each night. Dies if recruiting Mafia. Only those players actually voting for the mafia target will die. Wears a robe.

Enchantress - Town. May visit a person at night, once per game. Will give that player a Crystal. Crystals grant players a 1-shot Oracle ability.

Santa - Town. May visit two people each night. Will learn the first player's affiliation (as if Sane Cop). May give the second person an item (Bulletproof Vest, Gun, or Crystal). If visited, will not receive a report on the first player.

Priest - Town. Will learn the roles of every player that visits them at night. Reactively kills Werewolves. If killed, has a 50% chance of: Converting Town to Vanillas; Third Parties to Survivors; Mafia to Traitors.

Snoop - Town. May visit a person at night. Will learn all items they are carrying at the start of that Day Phase. Will see Vests, Guns, Crystals, Suits, Dolls, and Robes.

Virgin - Town. I

Town Roles, cont'd

Governor - Once per game, during the day, may override a lynch, changing it to a No Lynch, or another player.

Gunsmith - Town. May visit one person every night. Will give that player a gun. That gun grants them 1-shot day vig with a 50% chance of revealing their identity.

Agent - Town. Knows all Mafia and Third-party Roles. May send anonymous messages to those roles during the day (via the Mod).

Bomb - Town. If shot, will kill the shooter.

Deputy - Town. Has a gun that cannot be stolen. May shoot one person per game during the day. Identity will not be revealed when the gun is shot. Shots during the day trigger Bombs, killing the Deputy. Shots during the day will be stopped by Bulletproof players. Gun can be sabotaged.

Cop - Town. May visit one person every night. Will learn their affiliation (as of the beginning of that Night Phase). Third Parties investigate as innocent.

Insane Cop - Town. Is told they are a Cop. Will learn the opposite affiliation of their target.

Doctor - Town. May visit one person every night. Will protect that person from being shot.

Mortician - Town. May visit one dead person every night. Will learn their role, even if hidden or false. Will also learn Cop's sanities.

Mafia Roles

Paralyzer - Mafia. Once per game, during the day, may "lock" the votes. Votes already in place may not be changed. New votes may not be changed once placed. No message is given to the Town that the votes have been locked, but this may be inferred from the inability to change votes.

Interceptor - Mafia. May visit one person every night. Will kill one other person visiting his target (at random). Any other player visiting his target will learn the identity of the Interceptor. Example: Interceptor A targets Player B. Players C, D, and E also visit Player B. One of C, D, and E is randomly shot by the Interceptor. The others learn of the Interceptor's identity.

Enforcer - Mafia. Mafia Shrink, except Killer is converted to Traitor.

Yakuza - Mafia. May visit one person at night, once per game. Will convert that person into a Goon, then shoot himself.

Thief - Mafia. May visit one person each night. Will still (at random) one item (Guns, Vests, Crystals, Suits). Does not participate in the Mafia PM.

Lookout - Mafia. Mafia Watcher.

Quack - Mafia. Mafia Doctor, except may self-visit and is not part of the Mafia PM.

Godfather - Mafia. Investigates as Town.

Framer - Mafia. May visit one person each night. That person investigates as Mafia.

Informant - Mafia. Mafia Journalist.

Tailor - Mafia. Knows all the roles in the game. May visit one person each night and give them a suit corresponding to a role in the game. That player will be informed they have received a suit (but not the corresponding role). When that player dies, they will appear as the role corresponding to that suit. Fools Detectives and Oracles, but not Morticians.

Poisoner - Mafia. May visit one person each night and poison them. That player will be informed they were poisoned. Poisoned players will die at the end of the next Night Phase. Doctors can prevent and cure poison.

Janitor - Mafia. may visit one person at night, once per game. If that player dies during that night, their role and affiliation will not be revealed, except to the Janitor.

Actress - Mafia. May visit one person each night. Will learn that players role and impersonate that role. If investigated or killed, will appear as having that role. Fools Detectives and Oracles, but not Morticians.

Scout - Mafia. Mafia Tracker.

Lawyer - Mafia. May visit one person each night. That person investigates as Town.

Witch - Mafia. May visit one person each night. If that person is visited by a non-Mafia player, the Witch's target dies.

Driver - Mafia. May visit two people each night. Visits to the first player are redirected to the second, and vice versa. Will be tracked as having visited both targets, but is not seen on Watcher reports.

Voodoo Lady - Mafia. May visit one person each night and choose a sequence of letters (4 or more). If, during the next day, the target posts containing those four letters in that sequence (ignoring spaces and newlines, case insensitive), the target immediately dies.

Spy - Mafia. Mafia Agent, except knows and can message all roles.

Ninja - Mafia. Does not appear on Watcher or Tracker reports.

Goon - Mafia.

Paparazzi - Mafia. Mafia Oracle.

Sniper - Mafia. Mafia Deputy. Not part of the Mafia PM.

Silencer - Mafia. May visit one person each night. That person may not post (except to vote) during the following Day Phase. Not part of the Mafia PM.

Hooker - Mafia. Mafia Town Drunk (Roleblocker).

Saboteur - Mafia. May visit one person each night. If that person is carrying a gun, that gun is sabotaged. If the owner attempts to use the gun, it will backfire and kill them instead.

Stalker - Mafia. Mafia Detective.

Third Parties

Survivor - Third Party. May visit a player each night. If that player doesn't visit anyone, the Survivor "hides" behind that player. While hidden, the Survivor cannot be targeted. However, if the player the Survivor is hiding behind dies during the Night, so does the Survivor. The Survivor will not benefit from protection targeting the Survivor's target.

Cult Leader - Third Party. Third Party Mason, except if the Cult Leader dies, so do all Cultists. Wins when Cult has majority.

Amnesiac - Third Party. May visit one dead player at night, once per game. Assumes that player's role and affiliation.

Alien - Third Party. May visit one player each night and "probe" them. Wins if all living players other than the Alien are "probed."

Killer - Third Party. Must visit one player each night to kill them. Wins if the last, or next-to-last, remaining player.

Traitor - Third Party. Wins with, and along-side, the Mafia. Does not count as Mafia for counting majority and is not part of the Mafia PM. However, neither the Mafia nor the Traitor will be aware of each other's existence, since the Traitor is Third Party.

Warlock - Third Party. Each night, may guess the outcome of the following Day's lynch (may guess "No Lynch."). The Warlock wins if he correctly guesses twice, and survives until the outcome of the second correctly guess lynched. This means if the Warlock dies during the Night, but correctly guesses the following day's lynch, this doesn't count. However, if the Warlock is lynched, and correctly guessed himself, and that was his second correct guess, the Warlock does win.

Creepy Girl - Third Party. May visit one player at night, once per game. Gives that person a Doll. Anyone with a Doll may give it to another player during any night (in addition to their role). The Creepy Girl wins if the person holding the Doll dies while holding the Doll and the Creepy Girl is still alive.

Angel - Third Party. At the beginning of the game, receives a player's name at random. Once per game, may visit that player and grant them protection. If that player would be killed or lynched during that night or the following day, the Angel will die instead. The Angel wins if their target is living at the end of the game, whether or not the Angel is dead or alive.

Lyncher - Third Party. At the beginning of the game, receives a Town player's name at random. Wins if that player is lynched.

Lover - Third Party. During the first Night phase, must choose another player. That player is informed of his lover's identity. If one lover dies, so does the other. The Lover wins if he survives the game.

Politician - Third Party. Double Voter. At the beginning of the game, the Politician will assigned a random affiliation (Town or Mafia). Every other night, his affiliation will be chosen at random again (so may change or stay the same).

Third Party Roles cont'd

Monk - Third Party. Can vote, but votes do not carry any weight. May visit one person each night. That person gains protection for that night and the following day phase (That player cannot be killed or lynched). If that player is targeted for death or lynching while protected, the Monk earns a "Save." The Monk wins if A) he earns two "Saves;" or B) No one dies for two consecutive days and nights.

Werewolf - Third Party. Knows all roles in the game. Each night may select a person and a role. If the person is that role, that person dies. This includes Trees and Grannies and other people who are normally immune to deaths. Furthermore, the Werewolf is then immune to kills for that night and the following day and is also unlynchable for the following day. If the person is not that role, the Werewolf's role and identity will be publicly revealed. The Werewolf wins by being the last surviving player.

Fool - Third Party. Jester. May visit one player each night. Does nothing except to appear on Tracker and Watcher reports. Wins if lynched.

For those that are all "TL;DR" this introduction is essential to success in this game, which is why I'm posting it early, so people can read it and ask any questions.

I will randomly determine which roles will be in the game, then randomly assign those roles to the players. In the role PM, I will simply tell you what role you are ("You are Vanilla.") All essential information has already been posted.

Based on the semi-open, non-themed nature of this game, game play will be drastically different. There are no characters, roles are randomly assigned, and there are not really any role PMs to analyze. Thus you can't employ mod psyche or any sort of thematic analysis.

I'm not sure what you mean. With a Monk on the wagon it'd actually be had to accidentally hammer someone because what would be the accidental hammer would actually only put them person at L-1 since the Monk's vote doesn't count. This, essentially, would make everyone aware that a Monk exists (if they weren't already) which should make them more cautious about who to lynch.

That hardly makes a Monk OP because the target has to get to L-1 first which isn't exactly easy without making one's self obvious. Either the Monk has to argue for the wagon, requiring him to place his vote on the wagon (or else he'd look suspicious), which results in his existence being made known or, he has to avoid arguing for the wagon, which undercuts his win condition.
