The Mafia-Cop gambit is a tactic that is effective towards noobs. The gambit goes like this:

A mafia ccs a cop claim with a guilty on his/her partner. The cc acts as scummy as possible to cloud the towns mind. The guiltilyed mafia should get away.

Master of mafia gambits here!

Let me get this straight:
Mafia (player x) counter-claims the cop (player y), while claiming a guilty on another mafia (player z). Additionally, player x acts scummy (herr derr). When player x is lynched, player z is seen as more townie because player x said they were guilty.

The terrible entire gambit is terrible and here's why:
>Mafia are sacrificing themselves, simply to make a fellow mafia seem more innocent. There are situations where this may be useful, but generally it's not even worth it for mafia to sacrifice themselves to kill a townie, since the one-for-one exchange puts the town to mafia player ratio further in the towns favour. This is just mindless.

>In no way does being called out as guilty by a mafia fake-claiming cop make a player more confirmed. We call this bussing and it's a tactic used by everyone all the time. The WIFOM is obvious.

The reason this might work in EpicMafia is that those game setups are designed for quick play. How often have you been the victim of a random lynch by a more aggressive player in EM? It's common practice. Here, we stop and analyse things, often to a fault. This gambit simply isn't worth the risk involved.

The TV Gambit, if used by anyone but me is much more efficient (albeit difficult if you aren't TV). As mafia, you either claim your role or a variation of your role (if it's overtly scummy) outright. If possible, be honest about your character (As I was in Alphas Mafia for example), otherwise do your research as soon as your get your role information and find a character that matches, even one who may appear scummy but matches the role and could POSSIBLE be town. Ambiguity. Then, you simply play as pro-town as possible without outright FOSing your scum pals. If your teammates fvck up, jump on that sh!t. Be the first to push for their lynch. It takes experience to be able to predict if a lynch is going to happen. What you don't want is to lead a lynch on a team-mate if they may have not been lynched, but if they slip badly (like Bull did in Logics last game) then fvck it.

Unfortunately, if you do this people won't ever trust you. :P

Oh, it's a gambit because sometimes you just get lynched if you claim a scummy role. Also, you have to worry about being investigated. :/

TV, how do you predict if a lynch is going to happen?

Magical powers!

Seriously though, it's completely situational and there are always a lot of variables, both consistant and random. Take the Bull claiming super roleblocker in logics last game. I looked at the other players I knew and what I thought they might do(you and drafter come to mind), the direction the game had been going (DP1 lynches are becoming more acceptable) and made a quick decision to go for him. I mean, there is literally a matter of minutes between when he claimed that and when I started pushing for him. There is always the risk of mistakes being made. I'm not infallible, so the TLDR answer would be I just guess. I know the game so well though that it's an educated guess.
