The Never Ending Star Wars Story

The Never Ending Star Wars thread is about a Star Wars story that takes place three decades after the destruction of the Second Death Star (and the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader); technically this story never ends, so chapter after chapter can be added even after important characters pass away. Anything is permitted so long as the writer has the better interests of the unfolding story in mind.

Writers are encouraged to use creativity and be bold with their chapters--but not to undermine the story. (This story should be treated as a serious work of art.)

Rules

1. In general, Main Characters should survive for a good duration of the story, unless you believe killing one will add to the story's development. DO NOT KILL a main character unless you think it will benefit the story.
2. Do not post unless you're adding to the story. For the commentary thread link, scroll down to the next post below.
3. This is a Star Wars story; it should focus on the Star Wars universe. Leave real people (alive or dead) out of the story.
4. Do not curse too much; no overtly adult material, please. Absolutely NO TROLLING. Do not ruin this story for your amusement.
5. Anyone can write, do not spam the story, give others the chance to write.

Golden rules

1. Check The Never Ending Star Wars Story (Commentary Thread) before posting (the link to the commentary thread can be found in the next post). Make sure no one is posting at the same time you are. When positing, say so in the commentary thread FIRST, to alert the other writers. Name your chapter in the commentary thread (i.e. Chapter Ten: Luke's Battle in the Concert Hall) so that everyone knows what chapter you're working on and so that others don't work on the chapter. If you see that someone has claimed a Chapter but has not yet posted it, wait until he post the chapter before posting your own. (The Chapters should be organized in this thread by chapter number; i.e. Chapter Two should be posted before Chapter Three.)

2. PROPER, READABLE English please!

I will post the Star Wars opening and then Chapter One to begin the story.

STAR WARS

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. . . .

The Empire is in disarray. It has been three decades since conniving Emperor Palpatine was overthrown. Imperial politicians and Generals struggle to preserve what remains of the dead Emperor's starry realm. Powerful, ambitious warlords fight among themselves for control.

In the years following the destruction of the second Death Star, brave men and women and aliens from across the galaxy have struggled to reconstruct the constitutional Republic; the results thus far have been modest, with only one-third of all previous star systems rejoining. Fear of another Imperial tyrant uprising is high and the New Republic President finds his legal authority considerably limited. Acts of destructive terrorism are commonplace.

Under the auspices of the new constitution, war hero and Master Jedi Luke Skywalker has reestablished the Jedi Order on Coruscant. There, with the help of his Jedi trainees and warriors, he works to promote the once-dwindling light side of the force and to bring cooperative order and peace to the New Republic. It is a dark and tumultuous time across the galaxy. . . .

Chapter One: Attack on the New Republic President

Supreme President Kyle Vero Theresa looked sincerely into the lens of the holocam. Except for his blue skin and his unnaturally tall height (he stood a clear foot above the other occupants on stage), there was nothing to indicate he wasn't human. His dark black hair was dirtied with strands of silver and white, showing the intensification of stress of his five years as President.

He gazed truthfully at his galatic-wide audience. "Citizens of our great Republic--attending Senators, officials and diplomats in the audience--thirty years ago brave men, women, and aliens from across the galaxy came to our capital to rebuild the tattered, suppressed Republic. Millions of sentient beings who revered democracy, cherished liberty and rights, and who appreciated the rule of law came to this planet, Coruscant, to rebuild what was destroyed and oppressed--uncertain of the outcome. But they did it because they knew they had an obligation to do it, to themselves and for their children--for future generations--as passionate believers of sentient rights and democracy."

"Today we continue that tradition and responsibility," President Theresa exclaimed enthusiastically. "Even though several decades ago someone ascended to the highest office of our government--someone whom we trusted to lead--and was craftily insincere about his intentions, and manipulated our exalted institutions and our greatest fears to increase his power and trample on our constitution, this doesn't mean we should abandon democracy and our commitment to this venerable Republic! The individual who eradicated the previous democracy numerous decades ago was living a secret, sinister double-life. We've since altered our constitution to place more limitations, more restrictions on this office"even providing it with a different name: the Presidency."

"Listen carefully: the ascendancy of another Chancellor Palpatine will never happen again! Ever! This additional oversight and these increased restrictions on my office has made our democracy stronger, safer."

Hundreds of diverse aliens festooned in tuxedos, imposing suits and stately dresses, and other decorative bodily covering stood up and began to applaud.

President Theresa looked out sternly at the audience, acknowledging the ovation. He turned his gaze to one of the hovering holocams, and continued: "And that is why my Administration will continue to engage with the astrayed star systems until they are back within our fold--until every single one of those Senate pods in the re-constructed Senate Chamber are again being utilized! The star systems in this galaxy lived more contently, more at peace when we were united under one set of legal principles--namely our treasured constitution."

Standing on the same stage half-a-dozen meters to his left, Jedi Master Kamala Redstar smiled warmly at the audience. She was meditating on the Chief of State's somber words. It was a repetitive objective of each administration since the New Republic"s founding to re-amalgamate the departed star systems. But fear of another galactic tyranny ran high throughout the galaxy and was fresh in the memories of too many alien governments that reluctantly interacted with Emperor Palpatine's heinous dictatorship. It had left a deep psychological wound that many felt would never truly heal. Kamala wondered if even fifty-percent of all previous star systems would rejoin.

She had hope.

So did the Jedi Council.

And today's ceremony was evidence that it was gradually happening. Two star systems in the Core Worlds were being re-admitted, after years of on-planet deliberation and assurances from the New Republic government.

It was a proud moment for Supreme President Theresa and for the Jedi and for the long-suffering New Republic.

Chapter One (continued)

Master Luke Skywalker had appointed her and Jedi Corina Vitaan to represent the Jedi Academy at the cordial ceremony. Both of their Padawans were numbered among the diverse audience.

Kamala was dressed in her traditional Jedi robes, but finely-pressed and clean, and she wore a fancy deep-pink sash across her chest, with the words "Jedi of the High Council" embroidered onto it in an ancient language; her hair was tied back in a neat bun. Corina looked equally as elegant and pretty.

Each of them waited their turn to address the audience--and then to finally eat as the gala wound down.

When the festivity ended, two departed star systems where formally re-integrated through a medal-awarding ceremony (in actuality, they were re-integrated through planet-wide votes and a ratification process two full-months earlier); and the Supreme President made his way for the enormous Senate Halls with his heavily armed escort. Kamala and Corina and their two Padawans trailed him closely from behind, acting as extra security.

As they paced themselves to their transportation, a large crowd of media correspondents eagerly tossed questions at the President, which he shrewdly ignored. Multiple cameras repeatedly flashed as he strutted by; he waved at unfamiliar humans and aliens lined up in the crowd.

Suddenly a blaster bolt fired past his head, hitting a magnificent pillar not too far away. His security detail broke up: several of his bodyguards huddled against him and rushed him to his transport; the others scanned the area and hurried in the direction of the blaster fire. Instantaneously the four Jedi ignited their lightsabers.

As they turned to face in the direction of the source of the blaster fire, someone wailed in the crowd and barreled at them. The red exotic alien fired repetitive bolts at the Jedi while he rushed them.

Kamala quickly repositioned her lightsaber blade to deflect each blaster bolt. One sped by her, out of reach, but Corina was able to deflect it with her saber into an unoccupied area of the Senate Hall.

One the President's bodyguards fired his blaster several times into the chest of the rushing alien, trying to incapacitate him, but he barreled forward anyway, locked on his new target.

When the red alien reached the four Jedi, Kamala hopped and wrapped her legs around his meaty neck, forcing him to the carpeted floor as she came to land on her side, pinning him down on his back. A lucid, electronic ticking sound could be heard emanating from under his garments. The sound appeared to accelerate. Instinctively Kamala knew what it meant.

"Bomb!" she wailed at the surrounding crowd. She quickly got to her feet and force-pushed the belligerent into an unoccupied region of the Senate Hall.

Expanding fire and a loud boom ran through the Senate Hall moments later.

Chapter Two: Teacher

Jedi Master Kamala Redstar took the box-shaped glass elevator down to the ground floor of the President's office building; her bushy-haired Padawan stood alert beside her, taking in the city view through the thick glass.

The two of them had just attended a session with the President's Chief of Security, who informed them of the preliminary findings of the investigation over the recent attack on the President. The exotic-looking red alien--the now dead perpetrator--hailed from a planet in the mid rim of the galaxy that had once been connected with the Republic--until Emperor Palpatine enslaved the alien race and worked most of them to death in the construction of his invincible star ships. It was a common story throughout the galaxy. Alien species once fiercely loyal to the Republic a mere half-century ago were turning against it in suicidal rampage, to avenge for the awful tyranny of Palpatine's brutal reign. From its inception the New Republic government had to assure nervous and angry star systems that newly enacted constitutional reforms made it impossible for any one individual to wield so much autocratic power; newly imposed checks and balances prevented the Supreme President from commanding a military campaign without regular authorization from the Galactic Senate. Even then, a President could only serve for no more than two terms, after which he had to give up the office for good, no matter the situation.

But the painful memory of Emperor Palpatine's reign was too difficult for some and they wanted the Republic to simply go away. There was no negotiating with these folks; many of them supported or participated in terrorist organizations to encourage the destruction of the Republic. Some in the press called them the "New Rebels", but to most they were "terrorists" who felt isolation and separation were in the best interest of their star systems. Cooperation with other alien races led to bad results and unavoidable abuse, they felt.

For every two steps forward the New Republic accomplished with the reintegration of departed star systems, terrorist incidences and uncooperative planets forced it to take one riling step back. Progress was sluggish, but it was important to protect all hard-won gains.

Despite this latest failed terrorist attack, Kamala knew reintegration was slowly happening. She knew that this objective of the reconsecrated Jedi alliance was succeeding.

As the elevator gently but speedily descended to the lower floors, her Padawan gazed at his reflection in the glass and fastidiously adjusted his Jedi robes, self-conscious of his appearance.

Chapter Two (continued)

Adrian Jay Luddington was tall, slim and muscular--but he was also cocky. Measuring one and eight-tenths meters from sole to crown, he was almost as tall as his twenty-nine year-old master Kamala, but he still had much to discover out in the field. Only twenty, he had been assigned to the impressive Jedi field instructor when he was sixteen. The relationship has developed into something quite durable ever since--almost bordering on brother and sister.

But Kamala wanted to keep this imperative relationship professional.

Ajay (Adrian Jay) fought with his leather surcoat underneath his robes, trying to make the portion that revealed itself symmetrical. He tugged on one end to get it to appear just right in the glass reflection.

Meditating on the news she was just given in the President's office, Kamala flashed her dark eyes at Ajay in the glass reflection, distracted by his sudden movements.

Ajay's eyes met hers in the reflection of the glass elevator--and he momentarily
paused. After two full seconds he resumed working fastidiously on his appearance, this time fussing with the tunic collar around his neck.

Kamala shifted her head at him and rolled her eyes. "You look fine," she announced compellingly. "We're Jedi--not stage actors. As long as you-re donning a neat and pressed Jedi tunic and robe, you're attired respectfully. Besides, we have an image to maintain. We're modest and unconscientious."

"Teacher," Ajay shot back, "I can tell from all the work you put into your hair this morning. Very modest braids."

Kamala smiled blithely. "That's because I represent the Jedi Council. I need to look well-dressed and primp."

"Same here, Master," Ajay retorted while modifying his tunic collar. "I'm the future of this organization." The elevator chimed and the doors hissed open. "Main floor! Let's have lunch before we return to the Temple, Master. The hydroponic salads here are excellent!" He drifted in the direction of a busy cafe with a few dozen people seated at umbrella-covered tables, drinking and chewing on food.

Master Kamala followed her Padawan into the cafe entrance, briefly recalling her own lessons under the tutelage of a force wielder thirteen years back. . . .
