1) OMGUS - This doesn't work as either alignment. Regardless of what your alignment is, OMGUSing players that suspect you without trying to understand where they are coming from is a good way to derail the game. It doesn't mean you'll get lynched necessarily. It does mean that the player you OMGUS'd isn't going to back off and you two are going to run circles around each other.

2) Interactions with players - I typically try to limit my interactions just with players who can carry a conversation effectively. That means they understand where I'm coming from and don't get into a debate with me. The debate feature of this site serves that function just fine. Mafia is a collaborative team game distinct from a debater. When I notice that someone has a tendency to debate nitpicky details without understanding and empathizing with the opposing side, I pretty much wind up not responding. Choose your interactions wisely. Failing that, many of your posts will look like THIS:

I agree about the debating/quoting/posting issue. I think OMGUS is just nooby, and it usually goes away after some experience.

What makes mafia unfun for me is playing with inactives or other people who don't appear to try. They just troll or don't appear to put any thought or effort into their play.
My work here is, finally, done.

I agree, that just sucks and then they get mod-killed and you lose because of it.

I recently finished my first mafia game where literally half of the players were inactives.

That's pretty much it. I just hate playing with people who ruin the game. Players who legitimately act pro-town, even if it is in their own bizarre way, are fine because you can eventually figure them out. But people who don't care about the game or only about themselves just ruin the game.

I agree with khaos and bluesteel. Trolls and inactives are the worst part of mafia for me. Second worst are people who quit or get intentionally mod-killed. Why even play?

Mafia is fun when you're playing with people who are mature enough to treat people like human beings while putting a noose around their neck, and show respect toward others as you shoot them in the back of the head. Personal differences, or differences in political, social, or religious viewpoints, should be left in the forums. All that should matter here, and all I look at, is whether I think you are on my team, or not. Win or lose, mafia in general, should be fun, and it is most fun when everyone is able to participate, contribute, and learn.

The game is less fun when trolling, insults, and flame wars make up a significant portion of a 600+ post DP, and you have to read through all that crap to pick out details that matter in the game. Most people have no qualms with reading through a long post, if it is game related information. But most people aren't going to read the entire post if you're in a flame war, or it is laced with insults or generally trollish crap. It's one thing to play hard and argue your case passionately, but it's another to just clutter up the thread that others need to be able to read effectively and efficiently.

Mafia PM's are no different. We shouldn't be posting anything there that is insulting, if that person were to see it in the endgame thread. The mafia pm is a valuable learning tool for everyone, but if it gets out of hand, the mods are likely to stop allowing them to be posted publicly. A little off-topic but something to be mindful of.

TL;DR Version- It's just a game, and whether she did or not, play like your mother brought you up in a civilized home, with some decency, manners, and self-respect.

Agreed. I've been lucky to have by and large positive mafia experiences, with players who are interested in the game and play it with passion and maturity. I appreciate the DDO mafia community.

if your refuting to me i have a very distinct way of playing if i'm town I claim almost at the start unless it will get me killed. I always delay when i'm mafia so for me it's easy to tell which I am.
