Would anyone be interested in a thread for playong this game, where armies/strategies are sent to me and I announce the winners? If you do not know what this is, it is a very simple easy to play game detailed quite well here:

http://pages.physics.cornell.edu...

If there is sufficent intrest in the concept then I will go into more detail about how it would work.

Don't know where it goes
But it's only me, and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one, and I walk alone

Bump.

I think this could be a fun start of something new for this fourm, it doesn't have to end with colonel blotto. Any number of game theory games coud be played in this fashion. I think it woud be a nice change of pace from mafia but I need more than one person to make it work, preferably 4-5 would be a good start.

I would do this but I am in the process of putting together a group of people to play a zombie RPG in this forum. I agree though, a change would be good.

Yes, I did see that zomb game. Not sure I would have time for an RPG though. But that's the cool thing aboit game theory games, they take next to no effort to play. Fifteen minutes a day at most. If I get more people interested I will try again to convince you ;)

Sounds interesting but I'm pretty sure I already found the ideal strategy. You must win 6 games so you can guarantee at least a tie by dividing your troops evenly among the 6 armies that you must win in.
100/6 = 16.67....
So if you set it up like 0 0 0 0 16 16 16 16 16 16, you'll have 4 left, which means you can either have 1 1 1 1 16.... or you can give 1 randomly to 4 of the 16's to solid your victory against the same set up.

actually... I guess
1,0,1,0,16,17,16,17,16,16
ties against
1,1,1,1,16.... [two losses two wins]

And it also ties against
0,0,0,0, 17*4, 16,16 [2 lose 2 win]

But it wins against everything else

Some strategies are undoubtably better than others, but there is no undefeatable strategies. 1 1 1 1 16 16 16 16 16 16 for example can be defeated by all of the following:

2 2 2 2 17 17 14 15 14 15
2 2 2 2 20 22 12 13 12 13
2 2 2 2 17 17 17 20 17 4

Just to name a few.

The key to the game is that although any strategy can be easily defeated if you know what your opponent will use, you actually don't know what your opponent will do.

Again, some strategies are without doubt better than others and the one you propose is good but none are unbeatable.

at least 20 20 20 20 20 0 0 0 0 0 is almost guaranteed to at least tie any game.

Hm, less likely to lose but impossible to win. I liked the other one better.
