Welcome to In Pursuit of Power, Cycle 3! Bonam Fortunam!

Deaths

Bennett

He had his family around him--he was celebrating the accomplishments of his grandfather who, though long passed, was remembered well for his work in rebuilding your family's dignitas and fortune. This was the anniversary of his death. Yet, even surrounded here by those he trusted, he felt an inkling of concern, a suspicion he could not shrug off.

Excusing himself politely, he decided to pray to the gods, to cloister himself in their presence, so that they might reveal to him what was on his mind, and so that he might feel safe. He walked through the quite evening streets unaware that he was being followed.

It happened so quickly when it came. The stabbing pain in his chest. He writhed and fought, but the strikes just kept coming. As he sunk to his knees, he pondered how ironic it was that he, who was ordained by the gods to bring great things to his family, should die on the same day that his forefather did bring great things to his family. How lopsided a tale...

Character: Manius Acilius Lanatus. Hailing from the powerful Acilii family, you are eager to ascend the rungs of power. After hopping through a series of low-level religious offices, you are now the Pontifex Maximus, and you've attained this position at a remarkably young age. The gods speak to you know, and inform your decisions. Now, you have your eyes turned to the senate...or higher...
Win Con: You win if you can correctly predict three deaths over the course of the game, or when you become emperor.
Ability: Monk

Starting Money: 2500 ses.
Income per Cycle: 1500 ses.
Life Score: 40/100
Luck Score: 70/100

Tree

He could not abide people he could not control. His cousin, Manius, was one of those people. Devoted to the gods, Manius would listen to no one else. If Manius was to be Emperor, where did this leave him? No, it would have to be someone else, someone more pliable.

He saw Manius leaving the family's home, where they were all gathered for a feast. Silently, he trod after his target, stalking him until there was a moment when no one else was near. Unsheathing a small knife, he quickly, repeatedly stabbed his cousin. But his cousin fought back, and a wild strike of Manius's arm sent him flying into the pavement. It was instantaneous. His own neck snapped before he could even savor his kill.

Character: Septimius Acilius Dives. You are of the noble Acilii gens, and have used your connections and inheritance to build a thriving business that has made you one of the richest men in Rome. You aren't one to enjoy the limelight yourself, but you love the feeling of having influence over the powerful.
Win Con: You win (even if you died) if one of the Acilii becomes emperor, or when you become emperor.
Ability: Merchant

Starting Money: 3500 ses.
Income per Cycle: 500 ses.
Life Score: 60/100
Luck Score: 60/100

Severus has died. A mourning period has now commenced, but, behind the scenes, the struggle for power has only intensified.
