Anyone have this?

I have a somewhat mild case of it.

Here is a link for people that don't know about it:http://en.wikipedia.org...

To sum it up, it makes it harder for you to socially interact with people.

For me, while I may seem friendly or whatever on here, I'm actually pretty awkward to talk to in real life, and pretty shy.

That's the case with me, except with the "friendly on here" stuff. I have NO social life, period. I don't talk to people because I don't have the initiative to. And when I do talk to people, I am really awkward.

I've seen people overcome this, even ones with extreme cases.
Many people with this find refuge on the internet, as they are hidden behind a screen. The acquaintance of mine who became socially skilled stopped using his computer and started craving social interaction as a result. While it does put you at a disadvantage, it is not impossible to overcome.

Pretend that a conversation in RL is a DDO conversation.

They do that technique with something....can't remember what thought.

I have a good friend with Aspergers. He does pretty well. He knows a lot of people who understand what it's all about.

People with Asperger's aren't mean at all. The closest you can consider them is insensitive and generally stoic.

Doesn't help.

It's not that they're shy, although that can play into it. People with Asberger's don't recognize facial expressions and don't understand emotes. It's not as though they find interaction unpleasant -- it's more that they find it unduly difficult and easy to misunderstand.

Depends on your perspective.

For those that aren't excited by speaking to women are laughing over a mutual memory, it very well might be overrated.

They say it explains why I can't focus.

Asberger's does not yield concentration issues. In fact, most people with Asberger's are highly functional.

Well, an obsession is evidentiary, but having a sense of humor, particularly one that accommodates sarcasm, is not.

This. I speak to a colleague with severe aspergers frequently and a conversation with him is utterly different than a conversation with anyone else. Like sometimes he'll just go on for like 5 minutes straight about a topic no one is interested in, and he'll have no idea that everyone else has checked out long ago. It's sometimes really fun to talk to him though because some of his experiences that resulted from his poor social skills are utterly hilarious and always make for a good time.

I don't know how bad people's aspergers are on here, but a severe case is one really difficult hand to be dealt. Genuine friendship is probably impossible for my colleague.

Okay. It hasn't really affected my family; I think that we just kept living our normal lives. I found out from a therapist. I was shocked for a little while, and then went "meh." I know that if one smiles, you are happy, and if you post in all caps you are most likely angry, etc. However, I am really bad at communicating and generally awful at dealing with people. I barely talk, if ever.

Really?

That is truly fascinating. Well, if it's any consolation, I'm pretty good at communicating, but I'm still awful at dealing with people. xD

You barely talk, though?

That is truly astounding. Your painting such a picture that, it's clear we here on DDO know you on an entirely different level than anyone else in your life.

Well, you're a pretty cool guy. ^_^ When you end up meeting people that understand you, I'm sure they'll find you easy to get along with.

Not too much.

If I get to know someone, I can be very obnoxious.

How I found out was a took a test at a doctors office.
