In a recent study, "men who drank at least six cups of coffee a day had a 10 percent lower chance of dying during the 14-year study period than those who drank none. For women, the risk was 15 percent lower, according to Freedman's work, published in the latest issue of the New England Journal of Medicine."

Do you think this is true or do you think there are too many other variables to factor in?

Well, the author of the study said that the effect could very well be caused by other factors.

There is some evidence (though of a dubious nature) that coffee may suppress appetite and may increase calorie burning through thermogenesis (http://www.mayoclinic.com...). I personally have found coffee to be helpful as an appetite suppressent. So, to the extent that is true, coffee consumption may cause you to have a lower BMI which is very good for health and longevity.

Back when I drank 5-6 cups a day, I got a little more walking in per day because the coffee makers are on the other side of my company's building and on a different floor. So it may be that coffee drinkers may simply get more excercise per day which would lower BMI and reduce stress.

Coffee is a very healthy drink, and it certainly is good for the majority of people. Wouldn't surprise me if it made lives longer.

Caffeine isn't good for you. Tea (with light caffeine) would likely be better.

All I know is caffine isn't great for you, but on the other hand you never hear people dying from caffine OD's lol :P I personally prefer tea because not only does it have health benifites (I've heard maybe even more than coffee) but you don't get that jittery caffine feeling lmao. Then again, that's why most people drink it! :D Nontheless, coffee certainly isn't bad for you, so if you like it, drink it! :D

Not true. Caffeine is mostly beneficial, and for those who can't tolerate it, they shouldn't consume it. But there are people who cannot tolerate fruit either so that's a weak point.

Tea (with light caffeine) would likely be better.
The closest to coffee would probably be green and black tea, though I think coffee is too unique to be replaced by most teas.

The article mentions that moderate amounts of caffeine aren't likely to cause harm. The fact that there are side-effects of stepping over the line is plain obvious. Even drinking too much water isn't good either. Also, one can develop caffeine tolerance - so I think caffeine is a non-issue. Even if some side-effects were guaranteed, I think they are worth taking for the effects of coffee.

Studies show, that using studies that show will increase your chances of getting people to believe your studies that show.
Beware of the people who are in your circle but are not in your corner.

And with the stroke of a pen people 18 to 21 who own a gun became criminals and public enemy #1 having committed no crime and having said nothing. Just like the Jews in Germany during WW2. Must be a weird feeling.

When I hear people crying and whining about their first world problems I think about the universe with everything in it and people in wheelchairs and all of their problems go away.

I hope I hear Green Tea not coffee. Coffey also healthy for the body when it takes limited. Most of the doctor recommended 100 ml to 250 ml maximum per day. Green tea has antioxidants which stimulate health functions and decrease cholesterol Similarly Coffey has caffeine it also stimulates temporarily and it is addicted nature. So it's not good when it crosses the limit.
