It's not sad. It's literally nothing else but a different neurochemistry. That's what our normal experience of the external world is--a specific mix of chemicals. Mix in other chemicals, you get a different experience. I attribute value to those experiences because it assists in extricating yourself from your own limited subjectivity--it's sort of like languages. You can't really have a coherent worldview, I don't think, unless you know several different languages, or have at least a cursory familiarity with how those languages shape regional forms of life. This holds even if you're a good philosopher and produce influential work.
