Medicine is natural and it is good. But there is a certain cultural effect it has on us that can be harmful: it gets us scared of death. Death is seen as negative because it is preventable with sufficient technical skill. Death is to be feared and planned against limitlessly by producing more technology, keeping people insured, and finding highly-skilled people to heroically combat it. But death is not something to be feared. It is not something to be prevented either, at least in the sense that you're not going to foolishly lose your life. We pity and mourn our dead, but they need not our pity or our tears. Death is coming to us all, soon - and we can either face it honorably or turn our backs to it.
