Since history is written by the victor, can anything you read about it give you a real perspective on what really happened? Of course the enemy is evil and of course the majority of heroes were on the winning side. God was on the side of all the winners in all the wars. The losing side always started the war and the winners were only defending themselves.
The US has a mantra it has been chanting for every conflict in which they were involved. "Defending our interests here and abroad and defending our way of life against those who hate us for our freedom"
Imagine the gall of those people who want to stop American progress from mining natural resources from other countries.
Perhaps the only way to get a true historical perspective is to ask all the aliens watching the earth and patiently waiting until humans become civilized enough for them to actually make contact.

I don't think you can say all history books can't be trusted, there are plenty of historians that write from a balanced perspective.
"If you are a racist I will attack you with the north"- Abraham Lincoln

"Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material" - Leviticus 19 19

"War is a racket" - Smedley Butler

History is a waste of time, regardless of who writes it. No one learns anything from it, even if it were absolutely accurate in every detail. Why do you think history always repeats itself. They should cease teaching it all together if we will learn nothing from it and rewrite it all the time. There are endless examples of how socialism always fails and ends in tyranny. But what are we as a nation doing, running down the the road to socialism. It will be different this time, this generation is way smarter than the last.
It's not your views that divide us, it's what you think my views should be that divides us.

If you think I will give up my rights and forsake social etiquette to make you "FEEL" better you are sadly mistaken

If liberal democrats would just stop shooting people gun violence would drop by 90%

The idea of history repeating itself has been slowing down a lot because of what we learned from history.

No individual source of information can be trusted. The scholar must take in as many diverse sources of information as they can.

Yeah. They are really credible. They've been circling the Earth for millennia undetected. Let's go ask them. /sarcasm

History is never a waste of time. It allows us to reflect on the successes and failings of the past and apply this knowledge to the modern world so we can prevent mistakes easier. History also serves as a reminder of the past; if you've ever wanted to know more about your ancestors, learn about man's beginnings, or even the origin of the universe, then you're being hypocritical.

While yes, the record of socialism is such a blatant failure that only intellectuals can uphold its beliefs, one mustn't blame history for this. It is the corrosive combination of a tyrant and a anti-Capitalistic society who cares little about the past and who wants instant gratification.

So your point makes no sense. Those who forget their history are doomed to repeat its mistakes.

Compiling evidence inductively is good to a point, after which meaning begins to be lost in irrelevancies.

Oh really, how is today any different than any day in the past. We have wars we have endless govt take overs, endless debt, endless tyrannical regulation of the citizenry. How is that any different than the past.
