If you could witness any moment in history, which would it be?

About a dozen events immediately come to mind...

But at this moment (having just watched a related documentary) I'm going to go with the construction of the Egyptian pyramids

I've always wanted to know how exactly early men came to know that the liquid from the cow titties was ingestible. I would have loved to be a part of that conversation.

Many come to mind, but I can pare it down to two:

1. Witnessing the finishing of the third Hagia Sophia in Constantinople
2. The battle of Cannae
I'm becoming less defined as days go by, fading away, and well you might say, I'm losing focus, kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself.

Hiroshima

D-Day

The signing of the Declaration

The Gettysburg Address
"I know what you're thinking. 'Did he fire six shots or only five?' Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being that his is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and will blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question. 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"

The Basualdo mass desertion.

I know most of you have no idea what this was, so here I go: in 1865 the Argentinian and Brazilian governments together declared war on Paraguay, a grossly misbalanced contest. A forcefully drafted Argentinian army of 8,000 soldiers marched towards Paraguay, but they hated it since they felt the Paraguayans were their brothers, while they despised the central government who sent them to fight. So on one night, about half of them deserted. Officials threatened and shot some of them, yet within the next few days the entire army had disbanded. They refused to kill their fellow men.

As you can probably tell, I'm a staunch peacenik, and I think mass desertions are the highest points in military history, or any history for that matter.

Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown

Jackson's flanking movement at Chancellorsville

The surrender of The Army of Northern Virginia at Appomattox

Not necessarily in that order

I agree. History is too big for me to pick one single moment!

Epsilon: There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero... never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith.

I think I would want to see the Mongol sacking of Baghdad in 1258...
Hearing about the gruesome details of it from Dan Carlin's podcast "Wrath of the Khans" has got me curious about what it actually looked like in real life...

1) The last battle of Spartacus. I maintain he did not die. Rome never found his body. I would like to see if I am correct.

2) The construction and completion of the Egyptian pyramids. They must have been incredible painted white.

3) Birth of Christ
