Many people paint this picture of the Ottomani Psuedo-Islamic state as a representation of Islam. Well Im here to debunk this misconception. For one thing in order to form a Caliphate one must be of Muhammad's (SAAWS) Quraysh tribe the Ottomans weren't even Arabs for that matter. So their caliphate was illegitimate. Secondly many Ottoman Dictators were homosexual some even had harems of young boys which according to the Quran and Hadiths is punishable by death and also makes you an apostate unless you repent and refrain from all homosexual activites. They also toleratd blasphemy imprisoned scholars and allied with non-muslims which the Prophet disliked not really sin but still frowned upon they also had nationalistic tenancies and attacked many other Muslim nations. And later on adopted a form of Democracy and gave in so easily to the young turks movement. So it is my Islamic opinion that they are indeed apostates.

Good post. This is just attestment to the fact that popular culture often steers the religion of that culture. In this case, popular culture didn't forbid homosexuals. It was actually a twisted viewpoint. It would still be wrong to screw a lot of women, since you might be giving up your virgins in the after life. So sleep with a lot of boys instead? Sadly, this kind of thing still goes on today, but it is not as widespread as it was in the past.
We see the popular culture pull on religion today here in America. For instance, a man in the 1920's who was caught at a peep show was deemed a heretic and sinner and booted out of the church, yet today, 90% of Christian ministers struggle with looking at porn on the internet. It's so common place that most churches have given up on guilt tripping men for the act of peeping on porn. Even women in the church are looking at porn. Is it a stretch to imagine that secret homosexual affairs will be a normal thing in the church in fifty years? I think not.
All mainstream religions have to evolve with the culture, or they will die. It didn't take very long for the church to accept the fact that it wasn't evil for women to wear jeans or bikinis. Soon, affairs and lesbian/homosexual affairs will be normal in the church. It seems shocking right now, but in fifty years it will be normal, just as porn is normal.
Those churches who condemn these acts will not survive because no one will attend their services. I mean, take a look at the Catholics. They can clearly see the evil of the Popes. These Popes sleep with boys and promote Communism, yet the Catholic church still hangs onto power.

- Bro, your lack of understanding in both religion & history is alarming. I suggest you reserve your judgements until you're fully educated about both subjects.
