Why do people say "I've been working like a dog," signifying that they've worked hard, when dogs just lay around all day? :p

Police and security dogs work. Don't lump all the dogs together as just lazy individuals. That's just discrimination man.

I think that the dalmatians are just mascots now.

Because they're considered the most abused and downtrodden yet loyal animals known to man.

Lol, I feel like I'm the only one who cheered during Planet of the Apes.

Stupid humans.

Nothing?

Okay, fine, I'll ask.

WHY do you hate PETA?

We are disgustingly abusive to animals. They need some political clout.

We definitely are. And they definitely do.

You know I'm vegetarian.

But PETA is a ridiculously dumb organization. I point you in the direction of this onion video which is, pretty much, actually real:

http://www.theonion.com...

And I mean seriously... WTF is this?

http://origin.www.peta.org...

The message I'm getting from this isn't: "You should be vegetarian because A, B, and C." The message I'm getting is: "See! All those rumors you heard about veggie girls is a lie! Vegetarians are just as shallow and stupid as everyone else!" And that is true... but is that a reasonable ad campaign? Is that a good way to raise awareness about the problems animals face? Or why people should care? Not really.

And quibbling like this:
http://www.peta.org...

I swear. Sometimes I think PETA is just a smear campaign against vegetarians run by Tyson's chicken. "Save the house flies! BTW, CHECK OUT THE HOT LADIES!" Really? REALLY?! They try to get people to be vegetarian through celebrity endorsement and sex appeal [as if there aren't ACTUAL reasons people should be vegetarian]. Whatever substance they have is hidden behind layers and layers of B.S.

But an organization I do respect that works for animals? The Humane Society.
THEY GET SH!T DONE. I'm not saying they're perfect, but they certainly earned my respect for working toward a good end all without the absurd ad campaigns and the quibbling. They cut to the chase- just good old heart-wrenching Sarah Mclachlan and some footage of sad animals in cages. Fallacious for it's appeal to emotion, sure- but at least it is true footage, not quibbling, and not furthering exploitation in the world.

Nobody takes PETA seriously. And why should they? PETA doesn't take PETA seriously.

O.O

I... what do I say to this?

Uhm... the links you posted... they... just looked so harmless. :(

I have no idea from where all of this hostility derives, but PETA is extremely politically active. Those two links didn't seem very serious, but links like this do:

http://www.peta.org...

I support PETA 100%. I support anyone that helps animals 100%.

So, I support the Humane Society, I support the ASPCA, I support the animal cruelty investigators of several police departments throughout the country, and I support PETA.

PETA is a wonderful organization, and I revel in their zeal. When you consider the disgusting and monstrous things humans do to animals, I feel just as zealous as they.

I'm not a very zealous vegetarian at all. I think PETA is way over the top. I don't doubt that they do good things. I just think their efforts to "turn" people vegetarian are extremely flawed, embarrassing, and counter-productive. Whenever people think "vegetarian" they think "PETA." And I hate that.
PETA is to vegetarians as The Village People are to gay people. Theatrical. Well-known. Highly misleading. They are taken as an organization that represents my beliefs- they just don't.

To put it more specifically- There are many things I have a problem with in this country. Some of them are: cruelty to animals, the sexualization of violence against women, racism, obesity stigma, etc. etc.. PETA capitalizes on social ills to gain social support for one. That is disgusting and unnecessary.

sexualising violence against women:
http://feministing.com...

mocking the plight of impoverished people forced into prostitution:
"PETA Asia-Pacific had planned to take the [KFC blow-up] dolls on a tour of red-light districts"
http://www.peta.org...

seriously?: http://www.huffingtonpost.com...

They also,

trivialize the plight of Mexican immigrants:
http://www.chron.com...

Conflate slavery and racial discrimination with animal abuse:
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com...

fat-shame:
http://adland.tv...
http://www.size-acceptance.org...

AND MORE! But most importantly, they have no shame or regret about any of it.
http://www.womanist-musings.com...

And for each of these examples I've given, there are many, many, many others just like them. Some even worse. I could go on.
