I just went to Ikea for my first time today. One opened in Dublin just recently. http://www.irishtimes.com...

Its in one of the rougher areas and they haven't realised about trolley security!

Anyway, its like bed, very easy to get into, extremely hard to get out of.

Though it has everything, even pillows designed for side , back and stomach sleepers! I picked up a memory foam one that adjusts to your head for €5.99! Thoughts on Ikea?

It is extremely hard to get out of unless you've been there several times.

They design it so when you enter, you must go through the entire store before you're allowed to leave. Its quite ingenious, to be honest.

Cheap though. The restaurant there also has unrivaled prices for unrivaled food.

I'm considering a battleplan for the next trip.

Which is now adopted by everyone, except the Raj selling the newspaper down the road.

If you see the words "no entry this way" or something, enter it. It is a shortcut that they're trying to hide.

I've found only Ikea does that here. Walmart and the like all have that open style, where you can wander around down many aisles and find random things.

Exactly. They even have "Shortcuts",which I will disregard because you can't fit a trolley through it! Sneaky Swedish.

Yes, but they have many tricks. One is that you're made take corners lowly so they can show you their incredible "offers". Or maybe that's Tesco. I've never been i Wal-mart.

I once went under one of those small shortcuts and found myself in the restaurant. Funny thing was, the restaurant was upstairs, and I could have sworn I was downstairs.

The one thing I've noticed Wal-Mart or other similar companies have done is put up huge 'SALE!' signs which you go under constantly. They also put signs near clocks, windows and direction signs; the places people will look at, if not looking at the amazing sales!

It's almost as if they're trying to sell the sale signs. And, I wonder ywho sells sale signs? Isn't it misleading that they have all those sale signs without an actual sale going on?

No, it enters that realm when the owner of Ikea, a department store, becomes the richest man in the world for awhile. http://www.cnn.com...

They want to get people in the mood for sales. It is like setting up candles for when your wife gets home. It is all aimed towards pleasure.

Rofl, Ikea cannot be beaten. it's only a matter of time until they wage war on Wal-mart.

Well, Wal-Mart doesn't sell furniture specifically as Ikea does. They sell clothing, groceries and other consumer products, including some furniture, not anything on the scale Ikea does.

Plus, Ikea is do-it-yourself, something that appeals to the handyman in all of us. Wal-Mart is just evil.

Which is why they must defeat the evil wal-mart.

Make sure you have the boiled potatoes and the brown sauce and the lingonberry to the meatballs.

Do NOT, I repeat do NOT do what French people do, which is having meatballs with fries and weird sh*t like that. Yuck.

Trust me. I'm from the land of IKEA. I grew up one hour from the first IKEA store.

lmao, neverbeen there, but in West Palm beach(where i live) theres a big mall that has been quite literally TAKEN OVER by gangs. 75-80% of the stores are closed due to threats or shoplifting. and there was a rumor IKEA would buy the land... im sad tho :'( my favorite GAMESTOP was in there.
I'm back.

I LOVE IKEA!!!

Ikea is seriously one of my favorite places on earth lol. I'd be an interior designer if it wasn't such a retarded job. Hah. I hate that it's considered to be so "cheap" though (not sure if it has that same connotation in Europe) -- Maybe it used to be cheap back in the day, but prices there have risen here... tehe that sounds funny... and it's no longer the best place to go for low-priced goods. It's still a ton of fun though. I honestly go there with Vi for fun and spend hours there just browsing. It also helps that we are moving into a new place and need new things. Woo!

Yeah, but it isn't.

Poutine is Quebecoise, not French, and hence a half americanized bastardisation. :) Also, it has no meatballs, and hence, not the same thing. Plus, French people would not put brown sauce on their fries, so they have meatballs fries and other disgusting stuff on.

Yes, I am aware that poutine is Quebecois*. I also said it reminded me of this meatball/fries idea, not that is was the same idea. I also like French cuisine.

I'm an east-coaster, so I prefer Disney WORLD (and have been there innumerable times, thank you very much). It's a wonderful place, but <333 IKEA <333 when I have money, of course. That can be said about both places though.
