what is the significance to Diablo III? Apparently Diablo I and II had some significance to it I am unaware of, may someone enlighten me?

I've never played them, but their a very well known series of multi-player, dungeon crawler games made by Blizzard.

Evidently they are very simple to learn, hardish to master, and addicting.

Diablo put the Point and Click dungeon slaughter game on the map.

Loot, gore, click-fest and undead horrors were all made popular by the Diablo series.

Yeah that's why the name is so big.

Diablo 3 is such a big deal because the name is huge, Blizzard keeps pumping out amazing games (like Star Craft 2) and there hasn't been a decent dungeon crawler since Diablo 2 so these things together have generated massive hype.
