Resolved: Public High School Students ought not be required to pass standardized exit exams to graduate.

Any thoughts?
How about ideas for CV/VC pairs?

I personally would have preferred the torture warrants topic but I assume this will do for now.

I always read Decorabilia for info on LD resolutions.

http://decorabilia.blogspot.com...

For the Aff Case:
Standardized tests are flawed. A wide range of grades or even a teacher assessment could be more effective.

For the Neg Case:
Standardized tests ensure that people across the country graduate for the same reasons. In today's society, this makes a lot of things run much smoother, if at the cost of some inaccuracy.

I read decorabilia too, but he only posted a short something this morning. Perhaps Jim'll provide more.

I don't do LD, or formal debate for that matter. But, I am Pro Standardized Tests. Though, I do go to a private school...

So if an army is at a hill a mile away, shouldn't very help make a wall to not be killed, even if half the people are being 'individualist' and don't want to build the wall?

Sometimes mate, not always.

That is the most theoretical thing I've ever heard. When has that ever happened? And, what are you possibly going to build a wall with... that will keep back an army?

Obviously, collectivism is needed in the military, sports, and other GROUP activities where the GROUP is absolutely necesarry.

Therefore, individualism isn't always right.

I'm thinking that it's absolutely awful, and I'm glad that we don't debate the Sept-Oct topic where I live. But, this is the worst-voted topic from last year, so it's to be expected.

The terms "collectivism" and "individualism" refer primarily to ENDS. It is not collectivist to act with a group, if the purpose is your own interest. If the purpose becomes the group as such, without reference to such interests as the individual may have (such as fulfilling the victory condition of a sport, or killing someone who fights to enslave you), THAT is collectivism.

These year's topics are a bit scary. They seem to be drifting towards Policy. I'm struggling to think of unique arguments =/.

I'm with you - LD is supposed to separate from Policy.

If all individuals in a society determine to be individuals then this overall sense of individualism will be a identifying trait of that society and will thus work with collectivism (as opposed to against it) to better society as a whole.
In the relationship between Obama and the rest of the U.S..... I think the U.S. is getting the short end of the hockey stick.

Saying that exit exams are bad at prediction/biased? This can easily be refuted.
neg: Socital welfare
VC: constitutionality (something about giving states rights not listed in constituition)
I don't see that Constitutionality is violated. It'll be a tough ride proving this one.
