I was too late. How long did it take him to reach the ground and did it say how fast he went?

Freefall was about 5 minutes before deploying parachute, and the highest number that I recall was like 741 MPH. I thought the f*cker was going to either disintegrate or burst into flames

That is crazy. Almost the speed of sound.

The difference is that the upper atmosphere, although an object travels faster than the lower atmosphere, has much less air density, so the effects of such a high speed are not as pronounced. Joe Kittinger did a 19 mile high space jump in 1960, and he recalled that he didn't feel anything rippling his suit for about the first minute.

How do you think he got up there? Further, peregrine falcons tuck themselves together and fall straight down for about a mile, does that mean they don't have wings?

I just watched around 2 hours of footage and read three articles about this jump. You really can't appreciate just how challenging this jump is just by watching the jump footage. Some interesting aspects of the whole Stratos Project:

1. At 120,000 feet, if there were to be a breach in his pressure suit, the water in his body would turn into gas.

2. The balloon's thickness is about the same as a dry cleaner's plastic bag. Any damage to that on the ground would result in failure. Winds over 20 mph could easily break the balloon.

3. Felix Baumgartner broke 3/4 records he hoped to set: highest stratospheric flight in a balloon, the highest jump from Earth"s upper atmosphere, and the first man to break the sound barrier in free fall.

No, unfortunately I only saw the last few minutes. It was pretty kuf though.

1. A balloon, like you posted previously.
2. a) Are you saying that man was a peregrine falcon?
b) No, but I would assume at some point they would untuck their wings and soar onwards unless they enjoy commuting suicide. The man did no such thing. And no, a parachute does not count as wings.
