Not a Hitchens fan?

He has said a few things I don't disagree with, but he is not someone I'm especially fond of, no.

I do not understand the popularity of Chris Hitchens on this site.

He was widely considered an indomitable opponent in debates.

A few people debated him on this but it didn't appear easy for them.

I can't answer your question, though.

I do not understand the popularity of Chris Hitchens on this site.

He was widely considered an indomitable opponent in debates.

He was also an advocate of debate itself as well as reasonableness in general.

Maybe he should have stuck to politics.

I've seen the bloggingheads one and honeslty Hitchens seemed to always have a reasonable and factual answer to all of his criticisms. I've also read articles from liberals who think Hitchens has lost his mind. I want to know why they think Hitchens is so wrong because normally all i find are accusations of opportunism.

Hitchens had considerable skills - a superb vocabulary, skilled at oratory etc but he seemed to often use overly flowery language and bombast as his main tools - against a skilled debating opponent he often looked ill at ease as in the attached clip.

Pretty simple. He supported the Iraqi Invasion, which cost extreme amounts of dollars with no visible return of investment, other than speculation that Saddam might have used chemical weapons he had left over from the 80's.

There is absolutely no argument that the Iraqi occupation did anything to stop or hinder the operations or growth of Islamo-facism in the world.

He sold his soul to Donald Rumsfeld. The real question is how a guy capped off a brilliant career by being so wrong?
