Okay, so I was wondering this.

If I think something is disrespectful on here, I usually don't comment or whine about it.

However, I heard someone joke about the kids being shot today. Now what makes that seem so repulsive, but the thread Freedo made about 9/11 alright?

What I am asking is, people who laughed in Freedo's 9/11 thread, if I joke about this school shooting in a few years is it any worse than 9/11 jokes?

I'm not judging, just trying to figure this out. Because I always hear conflicting emotions from people who laugh at sensitive things like this.

If it happened a few millenniums ago you might.

In a few years? Sh*t ill bet that Tosh.0 jokes about the issue and gets some laughs out of it in a couple of months. Im certain that the same will happen on here around the same amount of time too.

Plus 9/11 happened over a decade ago now so people can laugh at it a bit.

It's okay to laugh one year after Family Guy has made the first joke about it.

A man with a gun.

Boom.

It's not ok to joke about them dying. It's all circumstantial.

For instance, I have a teacher who was raped. It isn't ok to make jokes that make rape out to be funny or something laughable. However, if there's rape in the joke for a reason and the punchline isn't rape, then it's funny to her. It's all contextual.

There's a reason that comedians say "too soon?" when they tell a joke about a current event that the audience expresses disapproval of.

It depends on the person.
My mom called me and my brothers over to her house a while back to tell us she had breast cancer. When she told me (I was the last to arrive), I immediately responded with "So, do I have to do a 5K now?". We laughed.

To some, humor removes pain, to others, it is disrespectful until the pain eases; it all depends on the person.
My work here is, finally, done.

People only become offended by things in an attempt to preserve their worthless sense of self-righteousness.

Yeah, there it is. Clear cut.

Having said that, being offensive doesn't automatically make you funny. Nor does it inherently make the joke any funnier.
