So, I thought I lost my iphone a few months ago. It had a service called "Find my iphone" which shows where the phone is as long as its on, but since the phone didn't turn on for weeks I assumed it was lost forever.

Five minutes ago, I went to check on the location of my new iphone, and learned that my old iphone currently resides in a remote village in thailand.

For those of you with google maps, you can see the new home of my Iphone using the following coordinates.

18"41'6.49"N
98"54'31.16"E

It probably got sold on Amazon. I used to think that thieves were a very isolated minority in society, but in any given room full of people, at least one of them is willing to steal something of yours.

In all fairness, I more lost this iphone than had it stolen.

As of now, I'm just screwing with the guy. I can lock the iphone remotely, make it beep, and send messages. I even know how much battery is left in the iphone.

That's what you get for not restoring back to factory defaults when you buy black market.

hmm when I put the coordinates in it showed it in the phillipines
Epsilon: There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero... never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith.

You can just look for "Mu Ban Yuphin, Thailand" and you'll get a road thats about 100m south of the house. The road itself is unmarked or I'd have a lot more fun.

Can't. I transferred the phone number out, so the iphone only works through internet. Either way, he's in thailand, so I don't exactly have legal leverage.

I made the phone beep every few minutes and (look above) wrote "hello" in Thai and left a callback number for the CIA front office.

That seemed to do the trick.

And what exactly is the point of this? A villager in Thailand wasted a month's savings on an iPhone he got from a local, shady dealer because some @sshole American who could wipe himself with the money he makes was angry that he didn't have it anymore? So now he'll start drinking even more, get fired from his job and beat his kids?

OK, not everything here might necessarily be true. But this is a bit sadistic, no?

Hell, considering the air travel costs, I'd be better off just paying some local to take him out.

We're even outsourcing our assassinations nowadays. How sad.
"The Collectivist experiment is thoroughly suited (in appearance at least) to the Capitalist society which it proposes to replace. It works with the existing machinery of Capitalism, talks and thinks in the existing terms of Capitalism, appeals to just those appetites which Capitalism has aroused, and ridicules as fantastic and unheard-of just those things in society the memory of which Capitalism has killed among men wherever the blight of it has spread."
