Who all is here an investor? What are you invested in? What vehicle is your money in? What are you investing for? What is your time horizon? What are your gains/losses? How did you first get started investing? etc.

You definitely should, you can make so much money by doing little work, and you'll retire much sooner. I personally looked into it after working at mcdonalds. See what your country offers in terms of tax benefits for retirement investing. For me its no tax on my interest (Roth IRA) with a 5000 contribution limit per year. Since I make under 5000 a year, I have no federal income tax, so essentially both the principle and the interest are tax free forever.

The problem I have is choosing who to invest in - There's a company where shares are with practically nothing, yet it's uncertain whether or not the shares will increase to the point of me making money

Indexes + ETF's my friend invest in a sector of the economy, not just one company.

Well, in addition to the overwhelming majority opinion based on a lot of evidence, you also just said you personally got into investing after working at McDonald's, which is exactly what askbob did.

Really? I didn't know that, it didn't say anything about that on the wiki. What a coincidence.

That's what she said.
It came to be at its height. It was commanded to command. It was a capital before its first stone was laid. It was a monument to the spirit of man.

Investing in health insurance companies and Big Pharma is pretty smart. They have skyrocketed recently because of health care legislation. Shorting bailed-out banks wouldn't be a bad idea either. Cheap biopharmaceutical and biotechnology stocks have high potential. Green and energy stocks in sectors where the feds are investing are a safe option with good potential as well.
