Do you think that streaming online movies be illegal?
I must admit, I'm a streamer, it's not illegal. I know lots of sites that are all safe and legal. I can watch any movie I like without having to illegally download. But it does hurt the movie companies and stores like block busters.

But today the price for movies are so high these days. Remember blockbusters used to be $2.50 for a rental? Now its $5.00.
And what about movie theaters? 11.50 for a movie?

So do you think that it should be illegal to stream?

I just want to hear someone 2 cents.

Illegal to stream movies? Why would you make it illegal to stream movies?

Hulu (though they don't have any good ones) and netflix are both legitimate sites that stream movies and make revenue from advertisements on the site and the cost of membership respectively.

They pay the owners of those movies to have the privelage of streaming them online. There is absolutely no reason why it should be illegal to "stream movies."

I watched some of Wolverine before it came out.

The radio should be illegal because they play music before it comes out on disc or appears live in concert.

The radio pays to play those songs.

The websites illegally steal movies so people can watch them legally.

Big difference.

That is a ripped dvd. The person who posted it put it on there even though it says

FBI warning, reproduction of this film is prohibited and will result in 5 years prison and $250,000 fine

OK, then obviously it shouldn't be illegal to "stream movies" but maybe it should be illegal to break copyrights (which it already is).

And the website is merely a medium for which the users break the law, as far as I see it.

And it definately shouldn't be illegal to watch them, since it is online and free and not something you download. Since many videos stream immediately when a webpage opens, it would mean that visiting certain webpages in of itself would be a criminal act.

Just like it would be silly to make it illegal to listen to pirated music, and the law is merely against the act of downloading it.

By creating these problems for the industry you encourage them to spend money one new ideas and technologies to solve them. Thus spurning on the economy and human progress. It's basically evolution.

Should the industry fail to evolve fast enough it may collapse, to be replaced by a new, possibly superior one.

So it's all good.
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

If the website did not get consent from the intellectual owner of the movie, then it should be illegal.

It should be illegal for the people to upload illegal videos and illegal for the website to host it. However it shouldn't be illegal to stream them, nor should it be illegal to stream legal videos paid by through advertisement revenue.

Don't get me wrong, I like streaming movies. I am just saying that they are stolen.

Stealing movies is wrong because it deprives the owner o the movie of property. Copying the movie doesn't.

By Copying you mean putting it online?
If I go watch Avatar online instead of going to the movies to see it, they will lose money.

Yes, the person ripped it. But keep in mind that the only one that will get in trouble here is that person. The person watching it? Nope, not at all. Nothing wrong with that. If someone wants to put their a$$ on the line so that a million or so people they've never met can watch a movie for free, then that's their prerogative. Should streaming be illegal? I think not. And if it was? Well tell me who that would stop.

Well sure, but if you enjoyed the movie and recommend it, then you make up for that loss by influencing someone else to go watch it who might otherwise have not.
