It's question B.

Read the question and see my answer vs the "correct" answer given. My math teacher won't side with me and won't explain! The question is what grade I have to get to loose my B. Wouldn't that be a 60 which would = a 79? If I got a 63, that would = 80 which means I still have my B. Tell me I am missing something here? I get points off for this and I don't think it's fair.

Well, actually, 61 is the correct answer, assuming the class rounds final grades.

If there is no rounding, the answer is 62. Either way, you and your teacher are both wrong.

I was right actually. I got it fixed with my answer.

It can be 60 which would still give me an average of less than 80.

(60+88+89) / 3 = 79.

79 < 80.

It should be any grade less than 63

(89+88+x)/3 < 80

Multiply both sides by 3

89+88+x < 240

177+x < 240

Subtract 177

x < 63
These are not the droids you're looking for.

Just curious, why did you say I was wrong?

I was assuming that the question was asking what was the maximum score you could get on the exam that'd put you under a b average.
