Skep is gone. Noumena is in and out (I'll leave it to DDO's better judgement as to whether or not that line should be followed with a clever remark). Danielle is... probably doing better things. So it is.

It should be implicit that I take virtually no offense to the word queer, or f@g, or any of the others...

Well, there's a few folks i'd argue are closeted, whose names I won't medicntion. But I know that's not what you're talking about.

I think there are a few others, though, aren't there? I mean, I don't really keep track of sexuality except to make crass (but well-meaning!) jokes or dating suggestions (I hear Grinder's pretty good), but I could have sworn I've seen a few folks mention it during various forum discussions...

Also, didn't "queer" get taken back not just by TEH gay agenda, but the whole non-hetero-normative group/system? In which case, technically, I'd be queer, in that I don't subscribe to heteronormativity at all and strongly reject traditional traditional gender identities (even if I am not a fan of penii). I'm waiting to be Mrs. Bladerunner's housefrau, as soon as that sweet sweet Library Science money comes in....

Also not what you meant, though. I'm just amusing myself.

What a contemptible thing to tell me... because of course now I'm curious of what you may know, but it would be quite disrespectful to others' privacy (and perhaps precarious to what you may have been told in confidence) to inquire further.

I've mentioned Grindr. It's a lovely app. Noumena has as well...

Grindr is a strange beast, though. There are a lot of headless torsos, hot but closeted gay men who are too ashamed of society's judgement to meet up (no matter how willing they are to flirt). There is a lot of sexual bizarreness -certain "interests" people have that are far beyond my level of comfort. Of course, LOTS of frat boys... I guess I'll always have a thing for guys in fraternities, or at least the well mannered ones. There are also a few good catches who, for whatever reason, have remained open. It's a worthwhile exploration, and I think downloading the Grindr app is a seminal moment in any gay man's life... something of a "rite of passage," if you will.

In a sense -the word has been recolonized, much in the same way that certain racial pejoratives have made their way into common discourse among youth subcultures within the greater context of racial politics. Also, I guess given your profession, you would enjoy a degree of latitude with the family that most dad's wouldn't... which is very much a good thing.

I love all of this. Except the frat boys part. Never noticed that.

I am not personally offended, but that doesn't mean that if someone uses the word f@g with malice, that I won't take some sort of action as a result.

This is proving extremely difficult to explain to my colleagues in response to them wondering why I just let out some sort of weird bark-laugh. :D

They are usually the headless torsos or the ones who are reluctant to give pics. Frat boys are good to hook up with though as an undergrad because they will leave you alone afterward. With one exception, all I've ever met up with have only wanted one night stands.

There are more details, of course, to it than that. But that's all that's appropriate to post on the forums.

What is queer? I think of it more as "genderqueer" and not really having anything to do with sexuality... Like, a "metrosexual man" or an androgynous woman or "tomboy" is queer. I used to be queer... I think.

I'm actually a pretty typically masculine guy. I also happen to like guys. So, there's that.
