Would you have any advice for someone looking to get involved in Archery?
Perhaps a good starter bow and maybe the benefits/differences between bows and crossbows? I'm kind of torn between which one I should get for myself.

Archery is actually with either the recurve or compound bow. The recurve is used for the Olympics. However, I would recommend joining a club or seeing a professional and trying your hand at it first because a lot of people join and realise they don't like it. It's not the most interesting sport. It has a lot to do with repetition, keeping focused and consistency. Sometimes, it can be painful.

A lot of people think it is a "lazy sport," where you don't have to train but they're wrong. You have to be strong enough to hold the bow up and steady, and even then, you're not actually holding the bow.

If you join a club, you can use their equipment for the first 2-3 months. By then, you should know if archery is "for you," or not.

Thanks for the info! I can see why some people might think that it's not challenging or all that fun but I definitely agree that it takes more skill than you'd think. I've tried and failed to properly hold several bows throughout my life. Honestly I just view it as a skill that is worth knowing in life. I'll have to check out my area and see if they have any clubs or places like that. Thanks again!

I'm more into traditional archery. I make my own equipment, and I like to go to 3D shoots instead of Olympic style tournaments. I don't use any kind of sites, stabilizers, releases, or anything like that.

Here's a video of a 3D shoot I went to with a couple of my friends in 2012:

Okay. I am fine with archery as a sport and for fun. However, I dislike it when people kill animals for fun, like with hunting games. I can understand if it is their job or how the get food or something, but I am just nature-oriented and animal loving. But I hate when people just want to take innocent lives for fun. (That is how psychopaths start up: with animals.) So yea...

Hmm. Sounds like an interesting subject for a debate--the morality of hunting for fun.

I'm okay with hunting, although I have a serious problem with the kind of hunting that went on when the Buffalo were being wiped out. Most of the time, they didn't even salvage the meat. I don't know anybody who hunts and just leaves the animal to rot.

I'm not comfortable with what goes in in slaughter houses, and I think hunting is far more humane. I hope the people who work in slaughter houses don't find their jobs fun. But if they did, it probably wouldn't have an effect on whether I eat cow meat.

Do you eat meat at all? Are you opposed to raising animals for the purpose of killing them for meat?

I do eat meat. Also, I am okay with people hunting as a livelihood to get food. However, I am not okay with hunting because someone just wants to kill something.
