....or so they say.

It may seem your first love is the most intense but is it really so?

In my case it was number three and it went all downhill from there.

Your thoughts?

Rod Stewart is wrong.

I agree, but it was a good song!

Especially before he lost his voice.

f*** if I know, don't have anything to compare it to yet.
It came to be at its height. It was commanded to command. It was a capital before its first stone was laid. It was a monument to the spirit of man.

I've had 5 relationships last for over a year, but I think I was only in love 3 times despite loving all 5. I broke up with my 1st love and it wasn't bad; I left her for my 2nd love who dumped ME and that hurt. like. hell. Later I realized that what I had with #2 probably wasn't MUTUAL love at all (so it might not even count lol) and now I'm in REAL love for the 3rd (or 2nd?) time and I'm sure that this would hurt the most if it were to end. Needless to say, I think it obviously hurts the most when you REALLY don't want something to end but someone else does. When you move on, the pain goes away (in my case) though it'd be interesting to hear if you have some long lost love that you regret losing, Brian. Pray tell?

Interesting how you phrased your question. I always interpreted the song as meaning the first love is most intense (that you fall the hardest), but the song also focuses on when a first love ends, it hurts more than any other. Perhaps because of intensity, lack of experience, etc.

I have several friends--including a brother--who married their first loves. I'd be surprised if any of these couples broke up. So, though they never experienced the pain of breaking up with their first love, the intensity of their first love rang true with the song.
