What do you do to pull yourself together when you're angry or sad?

I draw or write or swim.

I don't care about whether an ideology is "necessary" or not,
I care about how to solve problems,
which is what everyone else should also care about.

I almost never lose my cool. People think that I'm angry when I'm not, though. But, if I'm really angry, exercise helps.

I actually never get angry or sad. Would you completely do away with those emotions if you could? If not than why use coping mechanisms instead of just feeling that emotion?

1. I walk. How long and how far I walk depends on how upset I am. If I have earphones, I'll listen to music while I walk.

2. I work out. It actually helps me forget about my problems and I feel good afterwards when I check myself out in the mirror.

3. If I'm really mad, I make sure I'm alone somewhere and rapidly punch a wall really hard until my fists turn purple and I regret punching the wall.

4. Wrestle with another depressed dude. This works surprisingly well. At summer camp, I was really upset about something. I had a friend who just broke up with his girlfriend that day and is equally depressed as me. We went to our friend's room, asked him to be our referee, and we wrestled. We poured out all our steam and when it was over, regardless of who won, we gave each other a long gay hug and told each other "It's ok".

5. Alcohol and/or weed.

6. I call or talk to people I feel comfortable talking about my problems with. I only do this if I'm freaking out though.

I work in fast food. I do not control my emotions, I hide them, and very well, at that. You learn quickly when it's either "hide your rage" or "lose your job". Then I'll go in the cooler and beat the sh!t out of a case of lettuce or something. I hide it until it's convenient to deal with it, let it all out, and then it's back to business as usual.

And before anyone butts in about customer service or some sh!t, I'm great at that, even on my worst days. Doesn't mean I'm incapable of realizing when customers are being @ssholes.

If something happened and it's not work-related (rare), I'll go take a walk. And by "take a walk" I mean "walk until my legs feel like they're on fire", which last time was pretty damn close to 7 miles. Fun times.

I wish I had access to a pool, in my old neighborhood it was right behind my apartment and was definitely my go-to solution.

Now, I've got a punching bag or will meditate. It really depends on if it's just a need to release tension or actually a situation that requires searching within for a permanent solution.

Also, angry and sad are two very different emotions for me. If I'm sad I won't be using the punching bag. Playing with my cats usually help with sadness. They are goofy as hell sometimes and I can't help but laugh.

Definitely I analyze the situation, I see the cause and rip it from the root.

There is no time for sorrow, there is no room for regret. I am a warrior, born to fight to survive no matter how tough life gets.

That is my mission and I will complete it until I die by natural cause or at the hand of a greater warrior.

I've also found that having a consistent workout routine (for me it's Monday - Friday) helps overall as it's a constant source for releasing aggression. It also promotes a healthy sleep cycle and has pretty much cured me of my insomnia/sleep anxiety issues.

I don't get angry often enough to have any sort of coping method for it. I used to be angry all the time, maybe 8 or 10 years ago. I'm not really sure how I managed it, but I decided I hated being angry, and pretty much just stopped.

On the other hand, maybe once or twice a week, I do get sad... for seemingly no reason whatsoever. I'm not complaining about it, though. In all honesty, I'm happy about it, because it only ever seems to happen when I'm by myself. And when it does happen, I don't try to pull myself together. I immerse myself in that sadness, maybe have a good cry if it hits me hard enough, otherwise just a few tears. Either way, I generally fall asleep, still sad, but when I wake up... I feel great.

Never underestimate the power of a good cry.
To say one has free will, to have chosen other than they did, is to say they have will over their will... Will over the will they have over their will... Will over the will they have over the will they have over their will, etc... It's utter nonsense.

I rarely get highly emotional. If I get really angry I contain it, clear my mind, and take many deep breaths. If I'm sad, I excercise, hangout with friends, or pray. Preferably all three.

I had a temper as a kid but I can't remember the last time I felt anger.

If I get sad, I usually just watch some ted talks or read or otherwise engage my mind.
