To sum it up, in a compact History lesson:

In the Caribbean, there used to be lots of sugarcane plantations, when sugar was king. Sugar was a very profitable product. The enslaved Africans used to work on them, as slaves (hence= enslaved.) However, then England and Europe realized what racist arsehats they were being and emancipated the Africans. Therefore, a new cheap, efficient working force was needed. There were many push and pull factors that lead to Indians willingly, and unwillingly, coming to the Caribbean islands to work on the plantations, as indentured labourers (not much better than a slave).

Thus, Indians came from INDIA, into the Caribbean islands. Many were offered land after their 'contracts' ended, and stayed.

My great-grandmother was one of those indentured labourers.

Lol...It's sad that you need to give this history lesson. I feel like it's something people just ought to know.

In fact, one of the debaters I coach IRL is 25% Caribbean Indian and 75% Black.

No.
July 4, 1776 is when the Declaration of Independence was signed, even though it wasn't signed by all until August 2nd (or something like that), but the war still went on for about a year afterward.
I mean, is independence granted when we say we declare it (which was nothing more than a morale boost), or when our overlord (not the right word) says we can go?

My mind was blown too.
Sept 3 1983 was the Treaty of Paris, even though some Indians were still fighting for the Brits until a few years later according to a source.

We had a government in place, the Articles of the Confederation, before the war was even over.

Apologies, but I believe that you are incorrect. The Declaration of Independence was officially signed on the 2nd of July, therefore marking the beginning of US independence. The fourth is known as Independence day due to the fact that it was revealed to the public on that day.

The Articles of Confederation did not get passed until 1781 when Maryland finally accepted to pass it. The Constitutional Congress served as the makeshift government during the Revolution up until 1781.

That sounds about right for that trivia about the 4th I always hear.

Yeah, but the war wasn't officially over until 1783, ergo, we were not independent yet.

In essence, the world is fucked up and you can either ignore it, become cynical or bitter about it.

That's cool- did she like it?

Ya she loved it here is a picture of her modeling formal indian ware.

http://www.debate.org...

She didn't want to leave, she had 3 servants

Yes she went everywhere and saw everything even the poorest parts

That's awesome. Would you like to go?

Nope, I hate flying. If I could go on a cruise maybe. But who has time to take a month off work

Does she plan to go back?

On my dime no but on her dime anytime she wants. She wants to go to Japan as she has a place to stay there for free. We had an exchange student from Japan while she was gone.
It's not your views that divide us, it's what you think my views should be that divides us.

If you think I will give up my rights and forsake social etiquette to make you "FEEL" better you are sadly mistaken

If liberal democrats would just stop shooting people gun violence would drop by 90%

Do you feel safe with her so far away?

I don't care about whether an ideology is "necessary" or not,
I care about how to solve problems,
which is what everyone else should also care about.

She is an adult now (18) nothing I can say or do to prevent her from doing anything. I wouldn't anyway. The whole point of raising children is to set them free or in most cases kick them out. In her case, set her free.

Do you worry for her though?
