Who would be interested in a DDO Civ V tournament? Bossy and I played a game (which I won, bossy's lies notwithstanding) and it was really fun.

It is an incredible game. If you do it closer to Christmas (like, after Dec. 18) I'm in.

SoD had a natural counter of siege, which did collateral damage. Suicide 6-8 catapults on a stack and they are easy pickings for the rest of your army.

Much better than the situation you run into in civ V where you literally can't move your own units past each other. It is like a traffic jam. And don't even get me started on roads.

Well its more realistic. Do you think you can just march armies through each other? War takes planning and logistics. Doom stacks took all of the tactics out of the game.

yep i know about armies not being able to march through each other in wh40k dawn of war units are unable to move through each other or infact any strategy game units do that
Epsilon: There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero... never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith.

Do you have the expansion packs? It's an incomplete game without them.

Not more realistic at all. Civ games are not like Total War games. The map in a civ game is supposed to be a planet. So each tile is an area large enough to fit multiple armies on it. In fact, you could argue that Civ V is highly unrealistic, with archers firing missiles across the entire length of a multiple tiles?? Lol. That's like an archer shooting an arrow on one side of a city and hitting something on the other side of town.

Apparently you never played civ IV competitive multiplayer or even the AI on any level above prince. I guarantee that SoD is not a fool proof strategy, any competent human player and the tougher AIs would mop the floor with you by using siege to absolutely massacre your stack. If you were just SoDing around, you may not have seen the need for tactics in the game, but higher level players absolutely need and use tactical know how.

First of all, that's not true. Rome Total War allows friendly units to move thru each other. Second of all, Civ isn't a RTS and shouldn't be treated as one.

No, I didn't buy the expansions for either game. To be fair, I did hear that the civ V expansions fixed a lot of the problems with the game. However on the other hand, I sort of expect a game I purchase to be fun and playable on its own, without needing me to buy add ons. So maybe if I had bought the expansions i would be singing a different tune; But I just decided to keep playing IV instead of shelling out more money.

I agree that not being able to stack units is annoying. However, there are ways that you can make combat less tedious (e.g., turning on quick movement and quick combat).

I'll play, but only on the condition that Dylan admits that I slaughtered him.

Hearts of Iron (with Semper Fi, FTM, and TFH DLC's) is super complex and has a steep learning curve, but its super fun... I am an addict... like 221 hours on the game addict
