Welcome to the Bsh1/Zarad/BV Campaign's "Policy Issues: Ask Us Anything Thread!"

We're doing two different AMAs, one on policy and platform stuff, and one that gives users a chance to get to know us. This one has the "policy issues" theme--feel free to ask us any question you can think of about our platform, DDO current events, DDO issues, etc. We'll all try to chip in, though Zaradi's not at home so his contributions to this thread may be spotty. I am posting the AMA here because I like that the main forum is relatively clean of campaign spam.

I would also encourage Debate and Thett to host an AMA of their own so that voters can better reach out to them and glean information from them necessary to cast an informed ballot.

For the other AMA, please see this thread: http://www.debate.org...

Will you, or will you not, encourage a nuclear bombing of the religion forum?

Jokes, aside though, there are many good users in the religion forum--SNP1, for instance. I think that while the religion forum is still a mess, it is perhaps less messy than it was a year ago, thanks in large part to moderation. I would do whatever I could to support moderation's efforts in that regard, if elected.

Will you personally try to improve the religion forum (i.e. interacting with its members, starting a program within the subforum, etc.)?

I think we first have to diagnose the problem: Are the problems of the religion forum the kinds of problems a president can solve? I think the answer to that question is largely, "no." The problems lie in members preaching, derailing, and flaming. Those are things that are more in the mods purview to deal with, and I would definitely support the mods in those endeavors.

That being said, I don't think the President is wholly impotent in regards to improving the religion forum. The regular forum topics, enlisting good members to contribute to those topics, and so forth is something than can provide an outlet for reasonable discussion and hopefully a model for other threads in that forum. I would also be willing to arbitrate any disputes, and to reach out to any members open to having a dialogue. So, yes, I would be directly involved, but I say that with the cautionary note that the President will likely not be the major agent of change in fixing that forum.

Props for you trying to save a lost cause.

Why do you think that you, Zaradi, and Blackvoid are more suited to assume the position of president than the other parties (such as Liz and Thett)?

Lol...I doubt I will ever truly be able to "save" the religion forum, which is rather ironic, given that "salvation" and "religion" out to go together. The religion forum has taken a bite of the apple and they will need quite a lot more than me to redeem themselves. I am--unfortunately--not the second coming.

Rather, I think this is an issue of baby steps. I might not be able to save the forum, but I can perhaps make it a bit less awful.

Why do you think that you, Zaradi, and Blackvoid are more suited to assume the position of president than the other parties (such as Liz and Thett)?

I think there are several reasons. I think our platform is more comprehensive (we address things like voting reform fan fics, etc. that Debate just doesn't.) We have a better tackrecord that Debate. She has been on the site for a year, but didn't do much in the way of site improvement until she became President. We have a history of contributing to the site in substantive ways: Zaradi's mentorship program, beginners' mafia, beginners' tournaments, running the HOF, making a voting guide to the 7-point system, DDO Jeopardy!, fan fiction awards, etc. Additionally, I think our programs for noobs are far and away the best proposed in this campaign--a comprehensive "how-to" guide for debaters, a mentorship program, events where we specifically reach out to new users, etc. These are the kinds of things that attract and retain good users.

ROFL. Wrong AMA but it's an easy question.

If elected, how much of your platform do you think you will be able to implement successfully? Will you still make an effort to do the things you proposed even if you do not become president?

Fixed. Names should be capitalized.

(That was an ironic answer to your inquiry.)

But, in all seriousness, Rev is cool.

I think that the key parts of our platform are really achievable. Our focus is on community-building, and as I noted here [http://www.debate.org...] only one of our 12 main community programs would require Juggle's assistance. And, a lot of the programs are not things Debate has included on her platform.

Moreover, I really think that Juggle's fixing the mobile update is a good sign re: future interaction with them. I think that, with patience and gentle persistence, some of the site updates I'd like to see could be effected.
